dedicated in order to achieve YTotfinAssets and Y TotmatAssets 3 The problems of business process metrics and its meaning for BP modelling at various management levels will be discussed with further sections of that material. 136 Int. J. of Advanced Management, Vol. 10, No. 2, 2018 136 J. Stašák and P. Schmidt Fig.1 Example of KPI (0) performance indicator (superior core business process) related to KPI indicators concerned to subordinated KPI indicators. Source: The Authors As mentioned above, any BP is represented by its own internal and external metrics. With respect that issue three principal questions might be postulated: (A) “What about the role do the internal and external metrics items and values play within decomposition of KPI (0) indicator into KPI 1 (0, 1), KPI 2 (0, 2) and KPI 3 (0, 3) indicators related to subordinated core business processes?” (B) “What about the role do the internal and external metrics items and values play in performance modelling concerned to Subordinated Core Business Processes CB (0,1), CB (0,2) and CB (0,3), the aim of which is design and implementation of simulation model for business strategy creation (SMSC Model 4 )? (C) “How the (SMSC Model) might be applied in a practice related to preparation of business strategy different versions? 4.2 Role of business process internal and external metrics items and values in decomposition of KPI indicators To answering the (A) question Business Process Metrics Let us consider a superior core business process CB (0, I) e.g. utility glass production, which consists of I subordinated core processes I=1… ..n (n- number of subordinated 4 The SMSC Model will be designed and implemented with use of principles related to Business Process Linguistic Modelling Approach. Key Performance Indicators versus Business Process Metrics 137 business processes running at strategic management level denoted by symbol 0 (zero), which also indicates a root within business process (BP) hierarchy. The goal of any selected core business process (BP) is to generate pre-defined outputs based on appropriate inputs, while the pre-defined outputs related to any of the above- mentioned selected business processes contribute to aggregated total KPI indicator, denoted as KPI (0), which corresponds to superior core business process CB (0, I) too. On the other hand, for any business process is an appropriate metrics assigned, while the pre- defined outputs represent so called BP External metrics. However, any business process consists of adequate BP Functions (BPF) F (I, 1), F (I, 2) … F (I, m 1 ) (m 1 – number of BPF, the actual business process consists of), while any BPF is responsible for transformation of inputs into pre/defined outposts and an adequate metrics is assigned to them as well. This type of metrics is denoted as a BP Internal Metrics. In the next sections, we shall have a look at both of the above-mentioned metrics types, while they will be represented by appropriate linguistic sets, having pre-defined structure and features. Business Process External Metrics The Business Process External Metrics linguistic set has a hierarchic structure, while {PetY Totmat Assets (I, j 1 ')}linguistic set represents a subset, the elements of which are closely related to pre-defined products (articles, services or both) expressed in an appropriate measure unit (e.g. pieces) and {PetY Totfin Assets (I, j 1' )}linguistic set represents a subset, the elements of which are closely related pre-defined assets generated as a result of production of products (articles, services or both) expressed in an appropriate currency unit (e.g. EURO). Business Process Internal Metrics However, the Business Process Internal Metrics linguistic set has a hierarchic structure as well, while {PetZ THN Cost (I, j 1'' )} linguistic set represents a subset, the elements of which are closely related to Technical & Economic Norms and Standards (THN) concerned to different types of costs, e.g. material, operational, technological, HR 5 and payroll and commercial costs 6 too. Simultaneously, Performance Norms and Standards create an integral part of THN as well and {PetZ THN Perf (I, j 1'' )} linguistic set represents a subset, the elements of which are closely related to the process performance and the PetZ THN Ppar (I, j 1'' ) linguistic set contains elements, which represent general, operational, technical, commercial and economic parameters of products to be produced. The {PetZ FUS FMet (I, j 1' ')} linguistic set is the third one, which creates an integral part of business process internal metrics and has two subordinated linguistic sets: (a) PetZ FUS Seo (I, j 1'' ) the elements of which are closely related to Type & Class Product Status Elements & Operands and (b) PetZ FUS Feo (I, j 1' ') the elements of which are closely related to Type & Class Product Functionality Elements & Operands. The structure of BP external and internal metrics is shown in Fig.2 and creates an outgoing point for models related to different types of processes and various management levels. 5 HR – Human Resources 6 Commercial costs – costs to be utilized in getting contracts and selling the produced products 138 Int.
