How to construct an article

The structure of the article is the title, lead, subtitles, main text, conclusion. Work on the article begins with the main part, and after its completion write the introduction, conclusion and title. However, this recommendation may be violated in the title.

Title

A crucial link in the structure of the publication. All people start reading with a title. And if they’re not hooked, they look at other stuff. The title is a text advertisement.
It should contain the answer to the reader’s question («How to retire early?»). To attract attention, you need to use interesting language («Kanuli in the summer» - about the problems of tour operators). Question headings are good.

Lead

The first paragraph of the article answers questions: what is useful in this material and to whom it is intended. It should be short (2-3 sentences), informative and «sticky» to attract the reader and force to read the whole material. An example from «Arguments and Facts»: «Russia is among the top 10 countries with the largest number of deaths from heart diseases, although in developed countries mortality from cardiovascular diseases is decreasing». I know what I’m talking about, who I’m reading to, why.

Subtitles

They, too, must be intrigued: hint at what the conversation will be about, but not tell everything. If you write for serious publications, not the tabloids, do not put in subtitles unfounded and knowingly false information.

Key piece

This is the largest part of the article, contains several sections marked with subtitles.
The author describes the problem, explains why it is dangerous, gives statistics, gives opinions of experts, necessarily appeals to the reader’s feelings, being aware and keeping in touch with him. The reader must understand that what is written is important to him personally.
He goes on to solve the problem. Lists the sources. Comparing them, telling us why not everyone works.
Provides examples from personal life, expert comments, quotes, helpful tips. It revitalizes the text.
Offers its (or preferred) way of solution, proving its advantages in a causal way.

Conclusion

This part of the article summarizes the reasoning or gives the conclusion. The author highlights and repeats for the reader the most important points of the article. This will allow the reader to draw his own conclusions from what he has read and perhaps to continue to study the topic.
