Tragedy Averted 
My husband writes this dream about a tragedy that was 
averted: “In my dream, I found myself on a dirt road in the 
countryside with fields on either side of the road and tropical 
trees not too far away. Someone was coming toward me on a 
bicycle, and as the bicycle approached, I saw that it was Joyce 
Gill. She stopped her bike at my side, and told me sadly that 
A.L. Gill, her husband, had gone to be with the Lord. Her face 
looked stunned, and I reached out and hugged her and com-
forted her for a few moments. I told her that I was going to miss 
him terribly too, and that he had had a big impact on my life. 
Then I awoke.”

Interpretation: My husband continues: “I recognized 
that this was a warning dream. The scenery was that of the 
Southeast Asian countryside, a place where A.L. Gill frequently 
ministers. The bicycle is the common means of transportation 
there instead of the car. The message was clear. If A.L.Gill 
went to some particular place there, he would die. I called A.L. 
in the morning and discussed the dream with him. He had a trip 
planned in the next few weeks where he was going to Malaysia 
and Indonesia, both Southeast Asian nations. The political 
situation at that time in Indonesia was very bad for Christians. 
Hundreds had been killed in Central Indonesia by Muslim ex-
tremists, and Jemaah Islamiya, the main extremist group, had 
threatened them on Java. Law enforcement had been question-
able in many places in Indonesia at that time, but the situation 
in Malaysia was entirely different. Malaysia was relatively 
quiet with good law enforcement to deal with Muslim extrem-
ists. Although both nations are Muslim, the danger clearly was 
in Indonesia. 
“A.L.Gill said he had asked two people to pray with 
him about going to Indonesian as his wife felt uneasy in her 
spirit about his going there. He said my dream was the second 
warning he had received that week, and he took it seriously, 
canceling his trip to Indonesia, but confirming the travel to Ma-
laysia. He had a very successful trip to Malaysia without any 
incident occurring.” 
A bomb did explode in the Jarkarta airport the day A.L. 
would have arrived.
