pray about the situation. It depends on your relationship with 
the people in your dream. Are they your good friends? Pray 
about the timing of when to tell them also. I’ve made a mistake 
of telling a dream to a friend who then thought I was entirely 
off base because he didn’t believe God spoke in dreams any-
more. This person I realized, only symbolized a certain mind-
set in my dream and not the actual person. More about symbols 
later.
Dreams of Direction or Instruction 
A well-known dream in the New Testament was the 
one in which Joseph was instructed to take Mary as his wife. In 
the Old Testament, many prophets had visions and dreams of 
instruction. The prophet Ezekiel was given instructions repeat-
edly in dreams. He saw a vision of four living beings and 
wheels within wheels. Amos saw four visions: one of locusts, 
one of a plumb line, a basket of summer fruit, and a vision of 
broken capitals (ornate heading on a pillar) on the door. Habak-
kuk was encouraged to record his visions on tablets so that he 
could run with the vision. Though it tarries, God said, wait for 
it (Hab. 2:3). 
 Another Old Testament prophet Zechariah lifted up his 
eyes and looked and saw eight visions pertaining to the future. 
God showed him four horses, four horns and four craftsmen, 
chariots, a lamp stand, olive trees and a flying scroll. Each of 
them was a symbol of things to come. Even today we can be 
encouraged greatly by reading about his visions. Paul, the apos-
tle was given a vision of someone in Macedonia asking him to 
come over there and help him.

My husband, Jack, tells a story of how he had a dream 
of a dazzling light coming toward him. He was aware that Satan 
can appear as an angel of light, so he was careful, but as it ap-
proached he didn’t feel fear but only love. At this point, Jack 
saluted and fell on his face. He felt strong arms lift him up by 
the shoulders. Then he awakened with a feeling that God was 
his commander and he would receive instructions for ministry. 
A month later, the instruction came. 
One year when I was in Northern Siberia I dreamed 
that a black cloud like a ball was hovering over the overhead 
heating pipes, which were connected to each house from the 
outside. I knew it was the Spirit of Death, which was waiting 
to enter each building. Immediately Scripture came into my 
subconscious mind, which was: 
I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against 
you, that I have set before you life and death, 
blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that 
both you and your descendants may live... (Deut. 
30:19.) 
The next day I spoke about that dream to the audience 
and many received Christ in the days following because of the 
message in the dream. 
I have heard stories of how people who worship other 
gods have had dreams and visions of Jesus. One story was 
about a man who had an experience of seeing a kind, bearded 
man in his dream. After he awakened, this man walked in to see 
a Jesus film and was amazed that the Jesus in the film was the 
same man he had seen in his dream. He then was eager to learn 
more about this kind man.
