Outcomes of the third chapter
The third chapter is devoted to an empirical part of the research paper. We relied on the task-based and lexical approaches to teach agreement and disagreement in our research. The lexical approach is an approach of teaching English suggested by Michel Lewis. This is a method of exploring and teaching English language focused on the idea that a significant part of language learning includes being able to perceive and produce lexical phrases as collocations and fixed phrases which have different meanings.
Furthermore, I used communicative method of teaching and clustering technique. Communicative method is characterized by the using of target language in a real situation instead of working on papers or just reading and translating. Clustering technique is a technique wherein pupils can be involved in making connections between words and their meanings. It is one of the best way of learning and remembering.
Teaching agreement and disagreement should consist of the following components: accessibility and accuracy, motivation, communication and expressiveness. And the following principles: the principle of the age of pupils in the class, the principle of the procedural aspects of education, implying all types of human activities in their intercommunication, the principal of the different levels of pupils.
In the process of experiment, we used a great variety of exercises aimed to help pupils learn how to express agreement and disagreement. We used different types of exercises such as matching (pupils matched given sentences with the proper meanings), filling the gaps (pupils filled the gaps by guessing the meaning through the context of the sentence), exercise related to idiomatic expressions (pupils analyzed different but related meanings of the same words in different expressions) and exercise related to collocations (pupils discussed the different meanings of the same word in various collocations).
On this chapter, experimental study was also taken place. The results of experiment showed that using exercises advanced during the research in the English language classes. In the end of our research, we achieved good results of using chosen exercises. Pupils could enhance their vocabulary, and were able to make a conversation without any difficulties with the help of accomplishing tasks and learning the meaning of a word in the different sentences. They learnt to identify the meaning of a word which has different meanings through the context.
