Main Part. Harry Potter book series are the novels which illustrated real
society issues in the magical world of Joanna Rowling. Also, it seems that readers opt for this book to escape the reality of the world, it portrays reality in fiction. This novel has made phenomenon influence on the English language by introducing new words. To exemplify it, two new words have been added such as “Muggle” and “Quidditch” into The Oxford English Dictionary. As it is written in Oxford Dictionary, the term Muggle means a person who is not conversant with a particular activity or skill whereas, the term Quidditch is a team sport played while straddling broomsticks, in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through any of three hoops fixed at either end of the field. More and more words are likely to be added to the Oxford on condition that they are used widely. But it is also argued that they might cause some translation issues for future translators of other languages of Harry Potter book series. One of the challenging things in translation is translating names of characters’, as all characters’ personalities can be defined by their names. This is because, in English, they have meanings. For instance, Voldemort is a main villain of the novel. Voldemort is made up two words, volde and mort that describes a specific character of him. “He is the will of death; it is his will that those who oppose him shall die.” {Morris 9} The characters were described in several ways by using language proficiently. It can be observed how adjectives were used to picture heroes and their action in the books. For example, Harry Potter is characterized to have “ jet black hair”, while professor Snape’s hair is just “black and greasy”. Another outstanding feature of each character is the color of their eye. The main hero Harry Potter has “bright green eyes” that shows special energy and 173 his innate talent of victory. Likewise, Voldemort has red eyes which implies blood and evil which is opposite of goodness. Besides, author used reporting verbs to imply negativity or positivity of characters. Although words have either negative or positive meaning, its readers who decide whether characters are positive or negative. (Nygren 17). For instance: Draco Malfoy’s speech and its name itself is meant to be negative and evil on account of that it is written that “he sneered, or he snapped”. As these words define negative meaning, getting angry is considered as negative trait within society. In view of the character Draco, several Latin phrases are derived from Hogwarts' motto "Dracouns" definite suggestion of lizard-ness to him, given the fact that the word “Draco” translates to ‘Dragon’ which is never a good comparison to a human. In addition, in Athens 621 B.C., Draco's name was an archon and his characteristics and style of leadership led to the expression "draconic and draconian" that meant harsh, cruel, and hard. The harsh words and cruelties were perfectly suited to the character and his behavior in this series.: There are several points like this which are likely to be researched in upcoming papers.
