USING DIFFERENT TYPES OF ASSESSMENT IN LANGUAGE TEACHING
Homework Task Twelve

Please refer to the Diagnostic Assessment Tool you chose for Homework Task Eleven. In a page, please explain how you will use the information you learn to make informed decisions about your lesson plan DURING the lesson. For instance, are there key areas you are interested in that might cause some confusion for your students?
Focusing on the collaborative aspect of communication, the speaking skills lesson plans must include a large number of pair and group activities. The same form part of formative assessment and are used, not just for evaluative, but for diagnostic and remedial purposes as well. This presentation will address questions related to the assessment of spoken skills and the enhancement of the same by the teacher playing the facilitator.
My Diagnostic Assessment represents a grey area for all teachers - we constantly fear that we have not fulfilled the learning objectives, and we ponder on the things we could have done differently. If we take a step back and think about it, we will conclude that we have to individualize the assessment and create a differentiated classroom.
Research has proven that by differentiating our classroom, students learn more, and they can achieve a greater learner autonomy. However, this is easier said than done, because, to apply a differentiated assessment and ''break the rules'', we need to learn the rules by heart. That means that we have to know how to develop our curriculum by ourselves, and we need to use many different instructional designs.
We can differentiate our classroom in these areas:

  • Differentiating content;

  • Differentiating formative assessment tools;

  • Differentiating performance tasks;

  • Differentiating instructional designs.

When differentiating the assessment, I follow these steps:

  1. I start with the diagnostic assessment, and then I explore the student's aptitudes by applying the Multiple Intelligence Theory.

  2. I make sure that the assessment is personalized and task-oriented.

  3. And last, but not least, most of the assessment I conduct is formative.

The example in this section comes from my ESP classroom, and the ideas for differentiating assessment can be modified, and used in any form as formative, and summative assessment. It is conducted in large groups, as well as individual lesson.
Choosing what type of assessment can be good in this or that lesson ups to a type of activity we choose. For example, we know that formative assessment is good for daily activities, whereas by asking students to give a feedback to each other can develop students’ ability of analyzing and critical thinking towards the tasks and the ways of completing them. In addition teachers may observe the effectively of this or that activity and their assessment. It also helps teachers to be objective and fair with their assessment.
As the world of teaching is changing, because of modern technology teachers also may create tasks which are good to comprehend online learning, portfolio completion and project works. We know this type of activities help students develop their independent study skills and researching abilities. In my content of medicine it is really demanding, because doctors should work on their professionalism forever.
As for summative activity we need to get rid of traditional multiple choice testing and need to address students’ practical researches and reflect on their research, because it helps to improve students’ critical thinking.
To my microteaching lesson I have chosen the summative assessment and decided to organize the mini group competition among the students in order to develop their competitiveness. In addition, I decided to ask students to give a feedback to each other’s Presentation in order to develop students ability of listening, respecting and analyzing their work.
Homework Task Thirteen

Imagine you have completed (i.e., taught) the lesson you chose for Homework Task One (A) and you want to make a short quiz (10 min) that will measure what you taught in the class. For this homework task, please write the answers to the seven questions that will help you make test specifications for the test. We have pasted the questions again here:
