MAY / MIGHT
May and Might are used to express possibility in Present and Future Tenses. In this case they are translated as ,, mumkin ‘’.
e.g. We may / might finish our lesson by 7 o’clock.
Next summer, we may / might travel to Turkey.
We may / might buy this house.
May expresses higher possibility than might.
e.g. It may rain tomorrow.
It might snow tomorrow.
I will go with you. 100 %
I may go with you. 50 %
I might go with you. 30 %
In the interrogative form may and might do not show possibility, in this case they express permission.
e.g. May we open the window?
May I come in?
May I play your toy for some time?
May she go to the party?
In order to ask the possibility we use the following structures:
Do you think that + Future Tense
Is it likely that + Future Tense
Am / is / are + S + likely + to + verb + C + M
e.g. We may pass the exam.
Do you think that we will pass the exam?
Is it likely that we will pass the exam?
Are we likely to pass the exam?
MUST
Must is used when we think it is important to do something and it is translated as ,,shart’’.
e.g. He must try hard. I must leave at 8.
He must buy this beautiful car. They must hurry.
In the interrogative form must is used in order to ask whether it is important or not.
e.g. Must I clean my room every day?
Must she wake up early?
Must they wait you?
Must we come at 6 o’clock.
Must in the negative form is used to say that it is wrong to do something and to tell somebody not to do something.
e.g. You must not be late to the lesson.
You must not open the window when AC is working.
The past form of must is ,,had to’’.
e.g. We had to wait him a lot.
