2. SPEECH DEVELOPMENT

Listening to and understanding conversations is fundamental to learning and rhyme makes listening fun. By hearing the repetition of rhyming sounds, children learn the rhythm of language. If someone recites rhyme with animation, a child can imitate the speaker, which aids in enunciation.

Practice makes perfect! The more a rhyme is spoken the better a child becomes at training their voice in: pitch (the voice being higher or lower), tone (your unique sound), and inflection (the rise and fall of your pitch). Learning to control the volume of their voice is also important. Not every child will go on to enjoy singing, but rhyming skills help in music as well
3. READING SKILLS

Rhyme is a great introduction into reading. A lot of rhyme is presented in short stories. With often limited attention spans, short stories introduce your child to sequencing. They are learning that there is an order to the way things occur, there is an introduction, middle, and conclusion to every story.
You can make reading fun with rhyme by choosing subjects they enjoy. By nourishing noggins with positive reading experiences, your child can grow into having a life-long love affair with reading and rhyme! Not every child will want to learn to read though, so if your ankle biter still refuses to chew on books, take a look at our other blog post here
