Acknowledgements 
A number of important individuals contributed to the inception, creation, and completion 
of this study. I wish to express my gratitude to my committee members Dr. David Rigoni and Dr. 
Michael Porter for their input and early encouragement to pursue this dissertation topic. I owe a 
deep and special thanks to my committee chair Dr. Don LaMagdeleine, whose guidance, 
patience, and insights buoyed my spirits and helped me get unstuck (often) throughout this work.

some of my earliest, and least focused, musings that would later inform this study. Your early
