В этой жизни умереть не трудно -
сделать жизнь значительно трудней
It is not hard to die in this life - to make
life is a much more difficult task
Vladimir Mayakovsky wrote these
lines when he learned that another
great Russian poet Sergei
Esenin
committed suicide in 1925 (at the time
of his death he was only 30 years
old).
However, just 5 years later,
Mayakovsky, forgetting his own poetic
statement, also committed suicide.

Все счастливые семьи похожи друг

All happy families resemble one
another, but each unhappy family is
unhappy in its own way

Всё это было бы смешно, когда бы
не было так грустно
All this would be funny, if it were not
so sad
