Opportunities – Kanban – general assumptions 
1. Visualization of work 
The use of a board with sticky notes as a work tool helps to analyze current tasks and shows individual stages 
of the project. 
2. Measurement and flow management 
By using a board with sticky notes, the measurement and flow of tasks can be observed. This facilitates project 
management. 
3. Use of models to identify improvement opportunities 
Verification of tasks through action models facilitates an analysis of advantages and disadvantages of a given 
solution. It also helps to find options for improvement. 
4. Possibility to implement many projects 
The method is based on multitasking. Using its tools (the Board), it is possible to verify and supervise several 
projects. 
The Kanban method enables verification the progress of work in the project, e.g., by using Boards with sticky 
notes. 
 
Threats – Kanban – general assumptions
 
1. Lack of an interactive approach. 
The Kanban method is geared towards one task only, and the next one may, or may not, disrupt the process. 
2. Limitation of work in progress. 
A lack of flexibility in action (the use of predetermined guidelines on a board with sticky notes) may, but does 
not have to, limit the process of achieving the goal.

3. Low resistance to large fluctuations in demand. 
Changes in demand may make it difficult to achieve the project goal. 
4. It does not take into account the safety stock of finished goods, but assumes defect-free production, 
requiring a total commitment from all employees, which creates significant problems in non-Japanese cultures. 
It does not take into account cultural changes. It may or may not be missing some universal applications to 
facilitate the implementation of the project. 
By constantly analyzing changes in the environment, it can be noticed that the Kaban method may have 
cultural limitations. Therefore, it is worth working on these changes. Some of these changes may prove very important 
to Kaban development, others less so. By assessing their importance for Kaban, opportunities and threats to its 
development can be determined.
