IR final task 1&3

Stephen Krasner
Stephen Krasner is an American political scientist and international relations scholar. The main postulates of Krasner are:

  1. Sovereignty: Krasner is best known for his work on sovereignty and state power. He argues that sovereignty is the central concept in international relations and that states have the right to make decisions about their own domestic and foreign affairs without interference from other states.

  2. Structural Realism: Krasner is a structural realist and believes that the structure of the international system, particularly the distribution of power among states, is the main driver of international relations. He argues that states are motivated by self-interest and security considerations and that their behavior is shaped by the distribution of power in the international system.

  3. International Regimes: Krasner argues that international regimes, or sets of rules and norms that regulate state behavior, play a key role in shaping international relations. He believes that international regimes can provide stability and reduce the likelihood of conflict by creating expectations about state behavior.

Illustration of events/cases in IR:

  1. The Iran Nuclear Deal: The Iran Nuclear Deal is an example of Krasner's work on international regimes. The deal, which was reached in 2015, established a set of rules and norms for Iran's nuclear program, aimed at reducing the likelihood of conflict and providing stability in the region.

  2. The Iraq War: The Iraq War is an example of Krasner's structural realist perspective. The war was driven by the pursuit of power and security by the US and other states, and it was shaped by the distribution of power in the international system.

  3. The International Criminal Court: The International Criminal Court is an example of Krasner's work on international regimes. The court, which was established in 2002, provides a set of rules and norms for prosecuting individuals for international crimes, such as war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. The court is aimed at reducing the likelihood of conflict and providing stability in the international system.
