   The tip of the tongue is touching the lower front teeth, and, as in the case of all ordinary vowels, the soft palate is in its raised position and the vocal cords are in vibration. In normal speech the opening betweentheb jaws is not so wide as for p, as not, the medial vowel in the word ball, and ,as in cut.

(8)The English vowel(8)occasionally appears without a following u, but only in unstressed syllables or before another vowel. Such cases are comparatively rare, and there are always alternative forms with eu or schwa. Thus november, obey, molest are often pronounced nevembe, ebei,melest, but the forms neu,vembo, no,vemb, eu, bei, o bei are also common.

(11)Like all other diphthongs, this diphthong too is short before unevoiced consonants and long before the voiced ones and when in an open syllable. Thus ,board, has a longer diphthong than ,boat, . ,roe, and ,road, have longer diphthong than ,wrote,.
