Topicality of the course paper is to fully understand the functioning of the phraseological units in language it is necessary to link it with the mentality of the nation. Mentality is a certain deep structure of consciousness, which depends on socio-cultural, linguistic, geographical and other factors. Phraseological units are concentrated on the language throughout ages and are formed again in each epoch, as they contain language images, which are considered to be a means of perception of world picture and have an important role in its formation, reflect evaluative attitude towards the reality.
The sources of origin of phraseological units of traditional English phraseology are closely associated with the life of the people, its history, and way of life, beliefs and overall development of the nation.
Language teachers, material developers and theoreticians have all attempted to seek the most efficacious ways to teach idioms. Learners, however; are still faced with the difficulty of remembering and internalizing idioms.
