Teaching writing on the topic of Theatres for the pre intermediate

What you will need:
Handouts with these sentences.
What to do:

  • Divide the class into two groups.

  • Cut the sentences into two parts and distribute them to the groups.

  • Tell them to match the sentences with the beginning and the end.

  • The meaning of the sentences should match with each other.

  • The group which does the task fist and correct wins.

The exercise is aimed to help students improve their knowledge about correct construction of sentences in writing work.
Activity 14: Describing a person
Students will learn how to describe a person.
What you will need:
Good materials for the topic explanation. Pictures with the image of different people.
What to do:

  • Bring prepared beforehand pictures to the class.

  • Show the pictures to the whole class and ask their opinions about each of the person in the pictures.

  • Divide the class into pairs and give each pair a picture of a person.

  • Tell them to write a descriptive paragraph using appropriate vocabulary for it.

  • After they have finished tell them to change the work with another pair.

  • Pairs should peer edit others’ work and return it back to the writers of the paragraph.

  • After making last corrections in their works ask each pair to read the passage to the whole class.

The activity helps a lot in improving descriptive writing skills. As a homework learners can take to describe a close friend or a family member.
Activity 15: Guess who
Students will guess who is described.
What you will need:
The list of famous people who are known for everyone and popular film, cartoon and book heroes that are also known for all of the students.
What to do:

  • Divide the students into two or three groups.

  • From one of the groups a student comes to teacher. Then another student comes from the other group and so on.

  • Teacher tells student the name of a popular person or a hero.

  • Student should describe him or her.

  • Others should guess who it is.

  • The group which guesses correctly gains the point.

  • In the end the group with the most points wins.

The activity improves learners’ descriptive writing skills and guessing skills as well.

IV. Conclusion
In the present course paper, there has been made an attempt to analyze teaching and learning methods used in writing skills. On the basis of included material in this course paper following conclusion may be inferred.
Writing skills are considered to be one of the most difficult language skills. It is learnt by students in the last place for the reason of being demanding language skill.
Although it is communicative productive skill as speaking skill, it does not provide the writers with the full freedom in expressing their feelings and opinions regarding particular topic.
Moreover, the reasons of learners' difficulties and problems in writing also have been examined. There have been found a variety of difficulties and the modern solutions for them.
Most common ones are considered to be the lack of practice and vocabulary. Learners can find writing skill as impossible to develop for these two indistinguishable reasons for the writers. In other words the causes of poor and ineffective writing skills can stay unnoticed by the writers themselves.
In conclusion, the main purpose of the course paper was to distinguish the aspect of teaching and learning writing skills on which teachers and learners should concentrate on in order to improve effective writing skills.
