Excellence Is a Decision. Sadly enough, the majority of people will often
spend their entire lives in selling, and it will never occur to them that they should
commit themselves to becoming excellent in doing it.
The good news is that you do not have to be the best in the world to live an
extraordinary life. Success in sales goes to the person who is just a little better in
the critical areas of selling. If you take the time and make the effort, if you really
put your whole heart into what you are doing and learn to love the profession of
selling, you will move into the big-money ranks of sales professionals.
Self-Esteem and Success. We spoke earlier about the importance of self-
esteem and success. Psychologists have discovered that you can never really feel
happy about yourself until you know that you are good at what you do. You can
never genuinely like yourself and accept yourself as a worthwhile person until
you have become very good in your chosen field.
The reason many people are unhappy is because when they wake up in the
morning and look at themselves in the mirror, the person who looks back at them
is not very good at anything that makes much of a difference. Men especially get
their sense of self-worth from knowing that they are competent in their fields. If
a man is not particularly good at what he does and is not recognized by others
for his competence and ability, he feels unhappy and unfulfilled.
