Some people say taxes should be spent on health care. Other people
say that there are more important priorities for tax-payers' money. Discus both these views and give your own opinion. It is argued by some people that it is more important to spend taxpayers’ money on improving the healthcare system, whereas others stress the other priorities of spending taxes on. In my opinion, the funds collected from taxpayers should be proportionally divided by the government into different spheres. On the one hand, taxes collected from people had better be spent on im- proving the quality of medical service because people who pay taxes from their income or salaries earn it at the cost of their health. That is, they spend their time and labor, put huge efforts and may suffer from stress during the work time, which influences badly to their health. Consequently, governments should care for them by providing better healthcare service and improving the quality of hospitals and clinics. Moreover, the price of drugs tends to be very high and funding on research might help to lower the cost and deliver drugs to users at affordable prices. On the other hand, the public funding that comes from taxpayers has its specific allocations. The most important are sustaining armed forces, providing facilities for education and paying pensions to aged people. These are essential costs that cannot be avoided; thus, only healthcare improvement cannot better the situation. People pay taxes today, but when they retire they will get other taxpayers’ money as a pension. Moreover, securing the borders of the state and maintaining peace are considered to be of paramount importance for any country because instability, conflicts or wars may result in thousands of innocent deaths and destruction. In conclusion, although some individuals consider that their taxes should be spent on healthcare, my personal view is that it would be better to think about different aspects of a country such as education, peace and pension rewards that need public funding. 18
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ESSAYS
19
Today examinations are increasingly being taken from students to assess their knowledge instead of giving regular marks. This essay will look at positives and negatives of exams as a form of marking at educational institutions.
A major benefit of examination is that is makes the process of taking and checking students’ progress easier for teachers. Usually there are about 20 to 30 students in each class and teachers virtually do not have enough time to assess every student’s knowledge per class. Thus, teachers cer- tainly welcome it as an effective way of marking. Another advantage is that exams can be a good reason for learners to revise the knowledge they gained during the course. Learners always learn new topics and as time goes, they may forget older themes, which is natural because new knowledge must be gained.
However, there are a few drawbacks too. The major negative aspect is that exams may not actually reflect learners’ gained knowledge. This is because students may cheat teachers during the exam by copying from course books or other group mates. If there is access to the web, they can copy the correct answers directly. There is also another hindrance that exams are not taken regularly, so students prepare for them only a few days before.
In conclusion, the positive impacts of examinations are providing teach- ers with opportunities to assess all students relatively faster and ena- bling learners to read past materials one more time. Drawbacks are cheating by learners and the intervals that are usually long for assess- ment of real time knowledge of learners.
