Many  people  are  afraid  to  leave  their  homes  because  of  the  fear  of 

crime.  Some  believe  that  more  actions  should  be  taken  to  prevent 

crime. Others feel that little can be done. Discuss both views and give 

your opinion. 

Since the crime rate is rising at an alarming rate, people have fear of          

going out of their homes in cities. While a group of people concur that 

stricter measures should be implemented, others believe that it is           

inevitable and crime will not vanish. This essay will discuss both views 

and I will provide my personal opinion. 

 

On the one hand, existing measures of fighting crime should be 

strengthened and more CCTV cameras and other equipment need to be 

installed so that police can timely arrest lawbreakers. Moreover, it is             

believed that most of the criminals are those who fail to find jobs to                 

provide themselves and their families, so creating more jobs for this risk 

group could help reduce the rate of crime. Some people believe these 

can be effective measures. 

 

On the other hand, as the opponents of this idea claim, crime has gone 

too far to be eliminated and whatever government and people do, it will 

continue rising. For example, major cities of the world have the most                 

advanced police forces equipped with all the available technology, but 

they cannot totally eliminate criminals in those cities. It means that crime 

levels are said to increase in the future. 

 

In conclusion, although it seems that there is no way to stop crimes and 

people feel unsafe in the streets, I believe effective solutions lie with                 

governments because they can take control over those risk groups and 

create more suitable job positions for them.

A  growing  number  of  people  are  driving  their  cars  today,  which                          

consequently  requires  more  subsidies  to  the  refinement  of  existing  and                 

construction  of  new  roads.  While  some  argue  that  the  government  is                         

responsible for funding these, others, including me, believe that it is better if the 

costs of road refinement are covered by drivers themselves. 

On the one hand, road systems are vital in the economy of any country as well as 

expanding  the  urbanization  process.  Better  and  refined  roads  mean  faster                      

commuting  which  subsequently  causes  economic  growth  and  increased  labour 

productivity. Thus, governments, sensing the urgency for roads, should cover the 

costs  of  construction  and  refinement.  Moreover,  these  programs  increase  the 

country’s reputation in the scene of globalization. 

On  the  other  hand,  a  lot  of  countries  are  practicing  such  strategies  as  getting               

drivers  to  pay  for  road  construction.  This  can  be  achieved  by  taxing  fuels  that 

drivers normally buy for their vehicles. For example, on  average a car uses 6 liters 

of gasoline per 100 kph, multiplied by the total distance covered and total of all 

the  vehicles  in  the  country  added,  a  very  large  sum  of  money  can  be                          

accumulated. 

Personally, I tend to think that individuals should cover the costs of building or 

improving  road  systems  because  they  are  the  users  along  with  the  government 

structures  and  therefore  more  programs  need  to  be  implemented  to  encourage 

them to subsidise the construction or to improve the infrastructure. 

In  conclusion,  although  some  argue  that  governments  should  bear  sole                

responsibility,  I  believe  drivers  had  better  fund  the  improvement  and                 

building of the roads so that government could direct the funds to other spheres 

of national economy or social security.
