More  and  more  students  are  choosing  to  study  at  colleges  and               

universities  in foreign countries. Do the  benefits of studying abroad 

outweigh the drawbacks? 

A majority of the foreign universities are offering courses to people from all 

over  the  world  today.  Therefore,  students  are  giving  preference  to  those             

universities and colleges rather than studying in their home country. I believe 

this has more advantages than the disadvantages. 

The major drawback of studying abroad is the difference in culture. Students 

are not usually prepared for what may be expecting them in the host country. 

For instance, differences in food and accommodation as well as the way the 

people live there can be challenging. Furthermore, learners can find it hard to 

manage their budget and fail to complete their studies. This makes one think 

ahead before enrolling in courses overseas. 

However,  studying  in  foreign  educational  institutions  is  to  offer  great                    

advantages.  To  give  an example,  students  tend  to  choose  those  countries  as 

their  destinations  whose  education  systems  are  regarded  as  the  most                     

progressive.  There  is  no  doubt  that  knowledge  and  skills  acquired  at  the             

leading  universities  of  the  world  offer  better  career  opportunities  when  the 

alumni return back to their home country.  

Another benefit of studying at tertiary education overseas is the possibility to 

communicate  with  international  students.  Universities  offering  courses  to 

overseas  students  are  the  places  where  cultures  meet.  Such  an  exchange  is 

beneficial both for the host country and cosmopolitan students.  

To  sum  up,  although  differences  in  culture  is  a  major  drawback,  students 

choosing foreign universities and colleges can enjoy more benefits such as the 

possibility  to  obtain  top  quality  tuition  and  communication  of  cultures.  My 

personal viewpoint would be in favor of the advantages of this trend.

With improved transport and communication systems, it is now possible to buy 

food  from  the  stores  that  have  travelled  thousands  of  miles  from  far  away                    

countries. A number of people believe that the more locally produced food is sold 

in  markets,  the  more  benefit  it  might  bring  to  the  environment.  I  believe  that                

disadvantages  of  importing  goods  to  the  end  users  from  the  origin  countries              

outweigh its benefits. 

On  the  one  hand,  consumers  prefer  the  foodstuffs  that  are  made  in  their  origin 

countries and delivered to them fresh and tasty as if they have just been picked. 

This makes the experience unforgettable and people can enjoy the real taste of the 

product  as  authentic  as  in  the  farmland  it  has  grown  on.  For  example,  no  local 

fruit  could  replace  the  taste  of  the  bananas  that  have  grown  in  the  Brazilian                 

plantations and therefore consumers are ready to pay higher to consume this even 

if they are on the other part of the globe. 

On the other hand, delivering goods to such vast distances is costly and may bring 

a  lot  of  harm  to  the  environment.  To  get  more  benefit,  farms  are  utilizing  all                

possible resources to produce more, as a result, more forests and marshland are 

being  replaced  by  farmlands  and  local  wildlife  and  environment  are  in  danger. 

Moreover, delivering food to such vast distances requires the use of cargo ships 

and planes which are major polluters of the environment. 

Furthermore, foodstuffs can be produced locally by introducing the technologies 

and adapting the plants and trees to local environment. This can save huge costs 

on imports from far away exporter farms that can drastically reduce the price of 

food  in  local  markets.  This  practice  is  widely  being  used  by  a  large  number  of 

countries  where  created  artificial  conditions  to  produce  local  foodstuffs  in                 

greenhouses are being effectively utilized. 

In conclusion, delivering goods to huge distances is not advantageous both for the 

consumers and the environment. Therefore, it is clear that disadvantages of such 

economic practice far outweigh its advantages.
