Campers will explore the 1920s and 
1930s through the arts including 
painting, drawing, film, photography, 
radio plays and more.  Each day is a 
new adventure set in this beautifully 
restored city mansion.

ARC/CLASP
After-School Recreation Care
Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation operates innovative, quality and safe 
After-School Care in a recreation setting, for children ages 6-12 years old and 
Community Leadership After-School Program for youth ages 10-15 years old.
Under the supervision of trained, caring recreation staff, ARC offers:
 
• positive role models  • safe staff ratios  • physical activity and sports 
 
• safe environment 
• homework help  • outdoor and creative play 
 
• health and wellness  • nutrition 
• fun
In addition, the Community Leadership After-School Program (CLASP) is 
developed on principles of healthy youth development. The program is 
designed to enhance life skills by promoting physical activity, health and 
wellness, and community involvement through leadership workshops.

 Fee: 
$2.55/day ($191.25 for fall), $2.60/day ($109.20 for winter, $171.60 
for spring). Registration is based on 5 days per week. Registration/
payments are only accepted at Toronto City Hall and Etobicoke, North 
York or Scarborough Civic Centre or by calling 416-338-4386.

Inclusion and Support
We welcome and include children and youth with special needs/disabilities to 
participate in the After-School Recreation Care program at a level of participation 
suitable to their ability and facility access. Register at your desired location.

Fee Subsidies:
The City offers the Welcome Policy, a financial subsidy for low-income 
residents. Those who qualify will receive an annual financial subsidy of 
$526 per child. The subsidy will cover the full year cost of the ARC/CLASP

the community with high 
quality, accessible recreation 
and leisure opportunities for 
people of varying abilities. 
People with special needs/
disabilities are encouraged to 
participate in their choice of 
recreation opportunities at a 
level of participation suitable to 
their ability.
Selecting the Right Service Area – 
Integration Services or Adapted Programs
Integration Services – 
An individual may require an extra staff in 
order to participate in standard recreational programs which is usually 
in a 1:10 ratio. 
A Special Needs Recreation Program Staff (Integration Staff) 
assists participants by providing modifications in areas such 
as program instruction, movement, equipment, communication 
and promotes socialization amongst peers.
Adapted Recreation Programs – 
Adapted recreation 
programs are for individuals who have special needs and/or 
disabilities and want to participate in recreation activities with others 
who have similar interests, abilities and needs. Depending on the 
program, the ratios may be: 1:3 or 1:5.

Before Registering for 
Adapted Recreation Programs 
or Integration
To ensure the most enjoyable recreation experience 
participants must first contact the Adapted 
Recreation Programs and Integration Services 
office in their district to apply for and receive a 
membership. Refer to the phone numbers listed.
To complete the membership process, caregivers 
and/or the participant will be requested to 
complete information forms and meet with staff 
for a confidential intake meeting to discuss the 
participant’s needs before determining what 
program is appropriate. 
Before choosing a recreation program, whether 
Adapted Recreation Programs or Integration, it is 
important to give consideration to the following:
1.  What environment is the participant best suited for?
2.  What is the ideal ratio for the participant when 
attending a recreational program?
3.   What is the participant’s ability level? 
4.   What is the participant’s level of socialization? 
5.   What is the participant’s level of independence in 
daily living?
Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks to process a 
membership prior to registration. 
Returning participants
Must also complete a number of forms to update 
their membership prior to registration and notify 
staff of any changes.
How to Register
If participants require 1:1 support for behavioural,

Adapted Recreation Programs
To register for adapted recreation programs:
1.  Ensure you have a membership.
2.  Using the available registration methods, register 
into adapted recreation program barcode of 
choice.
3.  If the program is full, please register to be on the 
waitlist.
Integration Services
Arrangements for Integration Staff are based 
on individual application and availability of 
integration staff.  
To request Integration Staff (at no extra cost 
for City of Toronto residents):
1.  Contact the Adapted Recreation Programs 
and Integration Services Office.
2.  Ensure you have a membership.
3.  Using the available registration methods, 
register into recreation program barcode of 
choice.
4.  Request integration staff by registering, 
using the barcode listed.
5.  You will be placed on a wait list then 
contacted by your district office to confirm 
availability of integration staff for your 
request.
For Fall, Winter and Spring: Integration 
Staff may be requested for one (1) recreation 
program per session.
For Summer: Integration Staff may be 
requested for summer camp only, for up 
to two (2) weeks City-wide. Evening and 
weekend staff are not available.
If Integration Staff are not available, it is 
the responsibility of the family/caregiver to 
provide appropriate support. 
Note: If a caregiver is providing their own 
support worker, the Adapted Recreation 
Programs and Integration Services office must 
be notified in advance so the appropriate 
agreement may be signed and submitted 
one 
week prior to the program start date.

Adaptive Equipment
Portable Lift with Sling 
( available at Douglas Snow Aquatic Centre and 
Regent Park Aquatic Centre)
The Portable Lift is an assistive device used for 
participants whose mobility is limited.  The device 
will aid the caregiver in transferring the participant 
from one piece of equipment to another.
To reserve a time to use the portable lift, call  
416-395-7588.
Sledges and Skate Horses
Sledges and Skate Horses are adaptive skating 
devices that give people with disabilities the 
opportunity to participate in leisure skate and 
hockey activities. Book your sledge a minimum 
of 10 business days before your intended use, by 
calling your district representative.
Snoezelen Room
Snoezelen Room provides a tranquil, multi-sensory 
environment that allows individuals with disabilities 
to enjoy gentle stimulation of the primary senses, 
including visual, tactile and auditory. The user can 
relax and have the opportunity to choose an activity 
at their own pace.

Fitness Centres
St. Lawrence Fitness Centre
This fitness centre now offers a barrier-free space 
for wheelchair access and features the following 
wheelchair accessible fitness equipment: seated 
chest press, lat pull down, bicep curl machine, 
recumbent bike, upper body ergometer.

York Recreation Centre
This new recreation centre has accessible fitness 
equipment to accommodate people’s abilities.

Programs Descriptions
Active8 (19 yrs+) 
•  Daytime recreation opportunities for youth and 
adults with developmental disabilities.  
•  Activities may include: co-operative games, arts, 
sports, basic cooking skills, swimming, physical 
activity workshops, community walks and 
drumming.  
•  Participants must be able to independently 
participate within a program ratio: 1 staff to 8 
participants.
Adapted Basketball (13-29 yrs)
•  For youth with an intellectual disability to improve 
their basketball skills.  
•  Family involvement is encouraged to help foster 
self-esteem, confidence and ability to socialize 
with peers.
Adapted Cooking (13-29 yrs)
•  Introductory cooking class for children or youth 
with intellectual disabilities.  
•  Focus on the basics of cooking and making 
healthy food choices with easy to make recipes.
•  Participants must be able to function 
independently within a program ratio: 1 staff to 4 
participants.
Adapted Pickleball (13-29 yrs)
•  Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines 
elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. 
Two, three or four players use solid paddles made 
of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated 
polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net.
•  For youth with an intellectual disability to socialize 
and learn a new game.
•  Program ratio: 1 staff to 4 participants.
Adapted Recreation (6-12 yrs)
•  A social program for children with special needs/
disabilities.
•  Recreational activities include: arts and crafts, 
physical activity and community outings.  
•  Participants must demonstrate functional 
communication, be able to travel on TTC with a 
small group, and be able to participate in group 
activities with support.  
•  Program ratio: 1 staff to 3 participants.

verbal and visual instructions.

Adapted Ready, Set, PLAY! (6-12 yrs)
•  Introduces fundamental movement skills in a fun, 
safe environment
•  Program is participant focused and all participants 
progress at their own pace
•  Provides opportunity for participant’s to learn new 
skills and become confident competent  movers
•  Caregiver involvement is encouraged and helps 
facilitate the growth of self-esteem and the ability 
to socialize with peers
•  Participants must be able to function within a  
program ratio: 1 staff to 4 participants.
Goalball (16 yrs+)
•  Team sport for participants with all levels of visual 
ability.  
•  Teams of three players are formed.  The objective 
of the game is to roll the ball into the opponents’ 
goal while the opposing players try to block the 
ball with their bodies.
•  Basic skills learned include throwing, blocking and 
the rules of the game.
•  Supported by Ontario Blind Sports Association.
•  Participants must be able to function within a 
program ratio: 1 staff to 10 participants.
Skate Programs
Adapted Leisure Skate (all ages)
•  Drop-in program is for individuals with special 
needs/disabilities
•  Unstructured skate opportunity
•  Family members, Caregivers and/or Personal Care 
Attendants of the participant with disabilities are 
welcome to attend.
Swim Programs
Adapted Swim Lessons (5 yrs+)
•  Learn to swim program will encourage individuals 
with special needs to increase their comfort 
level in the water and promote aquatic skill 
development.
•  Caregivers may be required to provide one to one 
support in the water.
•  Program ratio: 1 staff to 3 participants
Adapted Leisure Swim (all ages)
•  Drop-in program is for people with special needs
•  Unstructured swim opportunity.
•  Family members, caregiver and/or personal care 
attendant of the participant with special needs/
disabilities are welcome to attend.
Community Partner Programs
Barrier Free Access to Swimming Program 
(16 yrs+)
•  Provides attendant care support in the change 
rooms by Tobias House Attendance Care Inc. and 
water support in the pool by Recreation staff.
•  Participants must live in Toronto, have a physical 
disability and require assistance before, during or 
after swimming.
•  Call Tobias House at 416-690-8804 ext. 303 to 
register for the program.
Social Night: Pop Can Club (19 yrs+)
•  Drop-in social and recreational program for people 
of all abilities.
•  Community Living Toronto, in partnership with 
Parks, Forestry and Recreation offers a drop-in 
social and recreational program.
•  Activities include: arts and crafts, physical activity, 
socialization and special events.
