Reflection

The second assignment which was about challenging grammar issues of L2 learners was not too difficult for me, as I have already known the levels of my target group of learners. Throughout this term, initially several basic grammar topics due to the learners’ needs were selected to teach, then visual materials were created to give brief explanation of the chosen topics. While I was learning grammar structure of English language, I read several articles Morley and Folse to enrich my background of English. After that, I made intriguing and supportive visuals for the young learners and I found that Canva is the most effective and informative tool to make presentations. Through the preparation, I found the right answers of some tricky grammar issues for my learners and me. Due to the students' greater interest and enthusiasm, teaching grammar or syntax with visual aids can be more successful. This nearly guarantees that a student will learn the material more successfully. I was looking through the visuals once more, I had to change these all. Because the initial materials were not appropriate to students’ level and most of the examples were complex to comprehend for elementary learners. Moreover, according to given comments by the instructor, there were not given , examples and grammar rules were not enough to be the lesson more productive. Folse, K (2009) stated that when a teacher makes grammar mistakes on classroom handouts, visuals, quiz or note to a student, it does not reflect on them or their credibility(p.33). So, I had to alter all materials from beginning till the end, but I did not change the topics. In my new visual, I added some examples and extra information about the topics and I used charts, tables to be more supportive for the class. To sum up, these visuals will help my students to learn the grammar acquisition effectively. Grammar and syntax shouldn't seem boring to students, and if the teacher can deliver the lesson in a variety of ways that motivate the students, they will undoubtedly gain from the experience.
