The object and subject of research. The object of research is the semantic-structural features of the geographical and historical place names, its subject is the geographical and historical place names which are used in the folk tales of the Uzbek language.
The aim and tasks of the research are to determine semantic-structural features of geographical and historical names in the folk tales of English and Uzbek. In order to achieve its goals, the following tasks have been set:
- To define common features of toponimic units in English and Uzbek languages;
-To identify the types of geographical and historical names and their classification according to thematic and nominal character;
- To determine the size and distribution of onomastic units in English and Uzbek;
- To classify semantic-structure of geographical and historical names in the English and Uzbek folk tales;
The degree of novelty of the research. The geographical and historical names of English and Uzbek folk tales were first analyzed in this research work. In particular, the types of English and Uzbek onomastic units and their size and distribution have been examined with the help of conceptual and linguacultural analysis.
Methods of research: system structure, historical-comparative, descriptive, conceptual and scientific classification analysis methods were used.
Theoritical and practical value of research results. Theoretical significance of the research extends the scientific understanding of the onomastic scale of the English and Uzbek languages and its units, extent of distribution and types. The scientific conclusions and the analysis can be used in the creation of textbooks and manuals on English and Uzbek onomastics, including selected courses in linguistics and in scientific seminars. The actual materials of the research and their analyses can be used in the formation of explanatory and orthographic dictionaries of toponyms in English and Uzbek.
