Introduction

In English grammar sentence function refers to the speaker's intention to pronounce a particular sentence, phrase, or part of a sentence. Whether there is an audience or not is sometimes irrelevant. It answers the question: "Why did you say that?" His four basic sentence forms (or "structures") in English are declarative, interrogative, exclamatory and imperative. These correspond to statements, questions, exclamation points, and commands in the discourse functions. Different forms include different combinations of word orders, the addition of specific particles or particles, or sometimes special forms. There is no clear one-to-one correspondence between form or structure and its discourse function. For example, the declarative form can be used to ask questions and the interrogative form can be used to speak. These types of sentences are designed for speakers, not potential listeners. They are intended to meet the immediate wants and needs of the speaker. These phrases tend to be unintentional (e.g. out of frustration), are generally more literal, more primitive, and are usually about the here and now.
