Seat Belts

Seat belts save lives and prevent or reduce injuries. All drivers shall properly use seat belts while operating company vehicles. Drivers shall instruct all passengers to properly use seat belts while riding in company vehicles. Although states have mandatory seat belt laws, this policy is to be enforced in every state and county at all times. The authorized driver shall immediately report any malfunctioning seat belt to the Fleet Manager.

  Airbags
  

Whenever possible, the employee will be provided a vehicle equipped with airbags. Authorized drivers shall immediately report any malfunctioning airbags to the Fleet Manager.
Hazardous Materials Policy

Company vehicles may not be used for transportation of any known hazardous materials, or materials of illegal origin.

Driver Distractions

Distracted drivers are the cause of many avoidable accidents. Employees are not permitted to use the following distracting behaviors while driving: eating, reading, using personal or company electronic devices, applying makeup, etc.

All authorized drivers who have cell phones will be required to use a “hands-free” device, or the speaker function on their phone. The company will not reimburse the expense for such a device.

Smoking

Smoking of any kind is strictly prohibited inside a company

vehicle. If a smoke odor is detected inside the company vehicle
the employee will be responsible for removing it. Evidence of
smoking will follow same disciplinary process as other company
violations, and could lead to corrective action, up to and
including termination of employment.

Impairment

If an authorized driver develops a physical impairment, including a non-work-related impairment, which may affect their ability to safely drive; the driver shall contact the Human Resources Department of RbA of the Carolinas to discuss the situation.

Moving Violations

All authorized drivers are required to report all moving violations, tickets, citations, D.U.I. arrests, or any other items potentially affecting their ability to drive a vehicle which happened either at work or on personal time to the Human Resources Department within 24 hours of occurrence (or 1 business day). This includes all violations, which may happen in non-company vehicles. Please email all information to [e-mail]. Any disciplinary action will be in accordance with the disciplinary process. Failure to provide any necessary information that may be disclosed during the annual MVR report may be grounds for termination.

Motor Vehicle Record Check (MVR) and Ongoing Driver Eligibility

A RbA of the Carolinas fleet vehicle is assigned to employees where the use of the company vehicle is necessary to perform their daily job functions.

The following minimum requirements must be met to drive a

company or personal vehicle on company business:

  Be at least 18 years of age.
  
• 
  Possess a valid driver’s license in the state of residence (within 90 days of move)
  
• 
  Be insured as set forth herein.
  
• 
  Be, in RbA’s sole discretion, capable of safely operating the vehicle assigned.
  
• 
  Maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with RbA of the Carolinas policy.
  

All Fleet Drivers (including any approved driver operating a

company or personal vehicle) and additional approved drivers
must follow all requirements set forth in this policy and comply with
all applicable laws.
A DUI (Driving Under the Influence) conviction, loss of license or
other serious violation (as determined by the company in its sole
discretion) may result in termination of driving privileges and/or
removal of the company vehicle from the driver’s possession. A
conviction of this nature by an authorized may result in employee
disciplinary action up to and including termination.

An acceptable driving record of both the driver must be maintained and driving records will be checked at any time that RbA deems a MVR review is necessary.
