Online shopping is a form o f electronic com m erce which allows
consumers to directly buy goods or services from a seller over the Internet
using a web browser or a mobile app. Consum ers find a product o f interest
by visiting the website o f the retailer directly or by searching among
alternative vendors using a shopping search engine, which displays the
same product's availability and pricing at different e-retailers. As o f 2020,
customers can shop online using a range o f different computers and
devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablet computers and
smartphones. An online shop evokes the physical analogy o f buying
products or services at a regular "bricks-and-mortar" retailer or shopping
center; the process is called business-to-consumer (B2C) online shopping.
When an online store is set up to enable businesses to buy from another
businesses, the process is called business-to-business (B2B) online
shopping. A typical online store enables the customer to browse the firm's
range o f products and services, view photos or images o f the products,
along with information about the product specifications, features and
prices. Online stores usually enable shoppers to use "search" features to
find specific models, brands or items. Online customers must have access
to the Internet and a valid method o f payment in order to complete a
transaction, such as a credit card, an Interac-enabled debit card, or a
service such as PayPal.

training them, compensating them, developing policies relating to them,
and developing strategies to retain them. As a field, HRM has undergone
many changes over the last twenty years, giving it an even more important
role in to d a y ’s organizations. In the past, HRM meant processing payroll
sending birthday gifts to employees, arranging com pany outings, and
making sure forms were filled out correctly— in other words, more o f an
administrative role rather than a strategic role crucial to the success o f the
organization. Jack Welch, former C EO o f General Electric and
m anagem ent guru, sums up the new role o f HRM: “ Get out o f the parties
and birthdays and enrollment forms.... Remember, HR is important in
good times, HR is defined in hard tim es” It’s necessary to point out here,
at the very beginning o f this text, that every manager has some role
relating to h u m a n resource management. Just because we do not have the

motivation, and retention o f employees— making these aspects not only
