The actuality of the dissertation is determined by increased interest of linguists in studying the nature of phonetic phenomena and to find out the characteristic features of the investigated object - the phonotactic features of the English language, the characteristic features of all the permissible syllable structures, consonant clusters, and vowel sequences, the distribution of consonants in the syllabic structure of English words. So my dissertation is devoted to the problems of phonotactics – to the analysis of the nature of the syllable, its components and the distribution of consonants in them in English.
The object of the research is the components of the syllable, distribution of consonants and consonant clusters in the syllabic structure of English words taken as vocabulary units of the language. Investigations have been carried out on a vast language material, based on the literary type of English pronunciation.
The aims and purposes of the work may be formulated in the following way and be achieved by doing the following tasks:
a) To establish the characteristic features of all the permissible syllable structures, consonant clusters, and vowel sequences.
b) To analyse the system of English consonant phonemes and their distribution in the structure of syllables.
c) To establish phonotactic rules observed in syllable onsets and codas.
d) To formulate the main rules of phonotactics in syllable onsets and codas.
The scientific and practical importance of the research lies in the fact that its results may be used in delivering lectures in the theoretical phonetics of modern English to Uzbek and Russian students, at the lessons of seminars of English phonetics. Method of phonological analysis of consonants and their clusters in polysyllabic English words and their phonotactic features is the main method of our research.
The degree of investigations of the problem. So my dissertation is devoted to the analysis of the nature of the syllable, its components and the distribution of consonants in them in English. We know that phonetics is the branch of linguistics devoted to the study of the events associated with the production of human speech sounds and is concerned with the human noises by which the thought is actualized or given audible shape: the nature of these noises, their combinations, and their functions in relation to the meaning.
Phonotactic problems have been efficiently studied by many of the scientists of the world - Gaiduchic, Dubovsky, Abluazizov A.A., Alimardanov R.A., Rogers, W.E., Treiman R., Danis C., Vassilyev V. A., Kreidler W., Sokolova M.A., Gintovt K.P., Tykhonova I.S., Tykhonova P.M, Roach P., Vrabel Т. Т , Jones D., Gimson А.С and others.
