Speaking about the great poets and scientists of Khorezm, one of the
ancient places of science, art and literature, the blessed name of the talented
Muhammad Rizo Ogahi is mentioned and his work in the field of poetry,
translation and historiography is proudly recognized. One of the great people
who left an indelible mark on the history of the Khiva khanate in the XIX century
was Muhammad Rizo Ogahi. Born in 1809 in the village of Qiyot, near Khiva, to
a mirab family, the writer wrote, "We are the descendants of Amir Eshimbi, one
of the hundred tribes living in Khiva."
Ogahi (pseudonym; full name Muhammadrizo Erniyozbek oglu)
(1809.17.12, Qiyot village near Khiva - 1874.14.12) - poet, historian, translator.
Born into the Mirab family. He studied in Khiva madrassas. He is fluent in
Arabic, Persian and Turkish. Famous poets and scholars of Khorezm took part in
the conversations of fans of literature. The works of Eastern classics, especially
Navoi's work, have been diligently studied.
After the death of his uncle and teacher Munis in 1829, the khan of Khiva
Allakulikhan (1825-42) appointed Ogahi as a mirab to replace Munis. From this
period Ogahi was engaged in the life of the people and the affairs of the palace.
During a period of intense socio-political labor, he fell off a horse and became

105
paralyzed (1845). In 1857 he resigned from the post of mirab. For the rest of his
life, he lived in a state of financial need, sadness, and illness.
Ogahi is more popular among the people as a lyric poet. The lyrical
collection he composed in the last years of his life - "Ta'wiz ul-ashiqin" ("Tumor
of Lovers", 1872) has come down to us. Devon is structured in the traditional
order. It consists of a total of 18,000 verses. But no matter what subject he
addresses, love cannot be avoided. Love is the main artistic tool in his pen to
illuminate the subject, to advance the idea; In his poetry, love is the driving force
of the thoughts, activities, worldview of the lyrical hero, as a symbol of faith,
belief, homeland, intelligence. The image of time and contemporaries also played
an important role in Agahi's office. The poet approached the complex period of
his life from the point of view of humanity and nationalism, skillfully
summarizing and evaluating the time and its people.
Ogahi took a creative approach to the possibilities of the genre and
perfected them: he increased the original order of writing gazals from 7-, 10-12
bytes to 23 bytes, and discovered a new form of the genre of mustazad with
double multiplication. His gazals are sung to all the melodies of “Shashmaqom”,
Khorezm folk melodies.
Ogahi created a school of translation studies, translating into Uzbek more
than 20 works of world literature and rare masterpieces of culture. The poet's
translations from Persian-Tajik are also included in the treasury of Uzbek
literature. These are: Mirkhand's "Ravzat us safo", Muhammad Mahdi
Astrobodi's "Tarihi Jahonkushoyi Nodiri", Z. Wasifi's "Bad. "Event", Ali
Gijduvani's "Miftah ut Talibin", Muhammad bin Sheikh Muhammad Muqim
Hiroti's "Tabaqati Akbarshahi", Muhammad Yusuf Munshi's "Tazkirai
Muqimkhani", Rizakulikhan Hidayat's "Ravzat us safayi Nasiri", Kaykovus's
"Nightmare", Muhammad Varis's "Zubdat ul hikoyot", "Sharhi daloyil al hayrat",
S. Sherozi's "Gulistan", A. Jami's "Yusuf and Zulayho", Badriddin Hilali's "Shah
and gado", Nizami Ganjavi's "Haft paykar" such as These translations show that
Ogahi was not only a poet and statesman, but also a mature translator.
Ogahi also developed and elevated Munis's traditions in this field by
creating works of history. Munis and Ogahi's Firdavs-ul Iqbal and his five works
on the history of Khorezm are important not only for the study of the history of
the Uzbek people, but also for the brotherly Tajik, Kazakh, Turkmen,
Karakalpak, Russian, Iranian, serves as a rich source in the study of the history,
culture, art, customs, psychology of the Afghan peoples, the origin of these
peoples, the source of their livelihood, the history of the tribes. It is characterized
by the fact that these works were written by talented poets, progressive writers
Munis, Ogahi, they include the history of peoples, life, daily activities,
construction of mosques, madrasas, descriptions of various events, popular
uprisings, history of wars, great people, scholars, poets, writers, and the like are
expressed in prose, poetry, on a realistic basis, accurately, clearly.
Ogahi's ideas, imbued with a high humanistic spirit, influenced the political
and enlightenment upbringing of the khan and poet Feruz. As a historian, he

106
wrote poems dedicated to the khans of Khiva, great historical figures. Ogahi's
Qasidai Nasihat is dedicated to Feruz. In his exhortations, he shows the guidance
of governing the kingdom, outlining the ways of governing the country and the
people with justice. The poem is written in the genre of Masnavi, which vividly
reflects the political and enlightenment views of the poet.
According to Ogahi, any head of state should have all the positive qualities
to strengthen power. The king must be generous, courageous, just, zealous,
generous, imaginative, pure-minded, cultured, considerate, poor. If a ruler
possesses these qualities, he promotes the idea that his power will be perfect and
his country will be prosperous. Agahi also pointed out ways to run the state.
According to the poet, the king should strictly follow the rules of Sharia. He
should be free from lust, conspiracy and gossip, ignorance, laziness, oppression,
slander, materialism. He listened to Feruz Ogahi's advice on governing the state,
wrote his wise verses on marble stones and placed them in the archives, and did
many good deeds. That is why Ogahi's historical works are valuable both as
fiction and as rare historical documents that accurately reflect the reality of
Khorezm in the 19th century.
Ogahi "Ravzat us-safo" (Mirkhand), "Tarihi jahankushoyi Nodiriy"
(Muhammad Mahdi Astrobodiy), "Badoe'-ul-vakoe'" (Z. Wasifi), "Miftah ut-

Gado (Hilali), Haft Paykar (Nizami) and other historical and artistic works.
translated from Uzbek into Uzbek. Ogahi translated Haft Paykar in prose,
abbreviated Gulistan and made it understandable to a wide readership. He
translated the epics "Yusuf and Zulayha" and "Shah and Gado" byte by byte
(except the introductory part) and created a clear example of creative translation.
“Miftoh ut-Talibin”, “Ravzat us-safoyi Nosiri” , “Tabaqoti Akbarshahiy” ,
“Tazkirai Muqimkhaniy”, “Firdavs ul- Iqbol” ,“ Shahidi iqbol ”,“ Yusuf va
Zulayho” ,“ Tawiz ul-oshiqin ”manuscripts are kept in Tashkent, Dushanbe and
St. Petersburg. Agahi translations of Zafarnoma (Ali Yazdi), Bahoriston,
Salomon and Ibsol (Jami), Hasht Behisht (Khusrav Dehlavi) have not yet been
found.
Ta'viz ul-ashiqin was published in Khiva in lithography (1905-09). Streets,
schools, Khorezm regional musical-drama and comedy theater, park and other
institutions in Uzbekistan are named after Ogahi. The Ogahi Garden was
established in the village of Qiyot, and the poet's house-museum was opened; a
statue of Ogahi is erected in front of the museum.
Of course, the variety of genres of poetry is always a source of peace, a
rebellious feeling like a rippling ocean, and a unique interpretation of both the
secular and the divine spirit in the understanding of the "two worlds". Our
grandfather's wonderful images through letters The artist's ability to create

images of images in harmony with the verses is a sign of his great knowledge and
courage to take a responsible approach to the magic of words. It also depends on
our university students, because the statue of Muhammad Riza Ogahi, located in
the Alley of Writers in Tashkent, is attached to our university, and we often
organize public meetings and art evenings in front of it. Contribute to the reforms
you are making to introduce your work to the people I think we will achieve the
goals we have set for ourselves, because we are the children of a country with a
great history and a great future.
