Introduction
There are many languages in the world. The precise figure depends on, for example where to draw a line between a dialect and a distinct language. Languages are classified on the basis of their supposed genetic relationships into language families on the one hand, and on linguistic grounds on the other hand. The language families include Indo-European (the largest family including the western languages), Finno-Ugric (including Finnish and Hungarian) and Sino-Tibetan (including Chinese). Some languages are difficult to include in the established families, and they are called isolated (e.g., Japanese). The traditional morphological typology distinguishes 4 language types. The syntactic typology by Greenberg divides languages into different types on the basis of the order of sentence elements.1
This particular course paper demonstrates a morphological as well as syntactic classification of languages with striking examples for both of them.
The actuality of the present thesis is that it considers morphology along with syntax associated with texts, namely, written form of languages besides theoretical views on them.
The main aim of the work. It is apparent that monolingual research is performed in different languages. Cross-language retrieval has become a significant research area in a global scale. Stemming from this perception, it is aimed to study the linguistic classification in a multilingual position.
The scientific decision of set aims and purposes will maintain the easiest way for better apprehending linguistic aspects of various languages and analyzing some texts from the standpoint of morphology and syntax on those languages although it is difficult to analyze and make research if one does not master the languages involved. The scientific novelty of the work is that in the work one can find new approaches of researching linguistic typology, more precisely, morphological and syntactic division of languages into groups.
