    Types of epic genre and its functions
    

Epic, according to Aristotle, is the third kind of literature - along with lyrics and drama. From the very beginning, the epic told about events that were supposed to happen in the past (as if they were accomplished and remembered by the narrator). Major epic genres: epic, novel, epic poem. Average epic genres - a story. Small epic genres - short story, short story, essay.
Epics also include such genres as fairy tales (folk and literary), and historical songs. The system of epic genres was formed in different ways. The system is based on a myth. The rites and rituals required-get verbal expressions: there lyapidevskii and epic songs. Life outside of ritual gave rise to a prosaic fairy tale, in which the myth is also reflected. The novel, an epic genre, was first poetic (chivalrous romances of the Middle ages), and from the XVIII century to the present time it has become prose ("Eugene Onegin"-a novel in verse, especially noted).
