15.1.
Research and Development – foundation for tourism development and growth
The Policy places research and development at the epicentre of tourism planning,
management and development to ensure that the competitiveness and profitability
of the Indian tourism sector is sustained. The Policy recognizes that comprehensive
and quality tourism research is essential to plan and develop tourism in the Country.
Research can provide relevant information to the tourism industry that it requires to
support policy, marketing, product development and investment decisions and to be
current with trends that affect the sector.
15.2.
Enhance research capacity
The Ministry of Tourism will enhance its research capacity
to meet the needs of
industry and Government, whether it is short-term, tactical research, monitoring and
evaluation, or long-term strategic research. The Research and Development strategy
will involve setting up of a comprehensive framework and a set of strategic priorities
to guide research efforts and investment across the sector.
