INTRODUCTION (Abstract of (DSc) doctoral dissertation 
The topicality and relevance of the research. In the 20th century 
Linguistics was oriented to the investigation of the language structure existing «in 
itself and for itself». The ideas regarding language as a «spirit of the nation» were 
considered to be the main object of «the so called» external Linguistics, and 
therefore were of less importance. However, at the end of the 20
th
century, due to 
the scientific paradigm shift in Linguistics the structural-semantic paradigm was 
replaced by the anthropocentric one. From the position of the anthropocentric 
paradigm language is regarded as a means of conveying cultural information and 
reflecting knowledge structures fixed in the language. Consequently, themes 
regarded as the subjects of external Linguistics have advanced to the foci of 
investigation. For this reason, Modern Linguistics is featured with its 
interdisciplinary and holistic approaches to the investigation, entailing integration 
of Linguistics with a range of related sciences, such as Cognitive Sciences, 
Cultural Studies, Sociology, History, Psychology, Philosophy, Anthropology, 
Ethnography, Theology and etc. This approach provides a comprehensive study of 
the problem of interrelations of «Language – Cognition – Culture – Society». Due 
to the links of Linguistics with the above-mentioned disciplines, there have 
emerged a range of interdisciplinary sciences such as Psycholinguistics, 
Sociolinguistics, Ethnolinguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Linguoculturology, 
Linguopragmatics, Gender linguistics, and finally Theolinguistics, which is at the 
initial stage at present. 
The awareness of the close-knit relations of language, culture and religion; the 
revival of religious-spiritual values; the importance of cultural and religious 
identity, the development of international and inter-confessional religious relations 
have resulted in the emergence of a new interdisciplinary linguistic trend – 
Theolinguistics. This discipline emerged in the interface between language and 
religion, and investigates the reflection of mythological-religious consciousness in 
the language. However, the status of this discipline is still debatable. Some 
scholars assume that the problem of language and religion can be considered 
within the theoretical framework of traditional linguistic trends. While the others, 
taking into account the complexity, ambiguity and multidimensionality of this 
problem, emphasize the necessity to single out a new independent linguistic trend 
– Theolinguistics, which involves the study of the interrelations of language and 
religion at all the levels of the language hierarchy and in the discourse. 
It should be noted that the problem of Language and Religion, despite its 
significance is partially investigated. Fundamental investigations in this sphere 
have not been carried out. Hence, the topicality of the research is determined by 
the following factors: 1) the problem is investigated in the framework of 
interdisciplinary trends of Linguistics: Theolinguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, 
Linguoculturology, Linguoconceptology; 2) inefficiency of both theoretical and 
empirical data of Theolinguistics; 3) cognitive and cultural significance of the 
religious world picture (RWP) and its reflection in the linguistic world picture 
(LWP); 4) interdisciplinary and holistic approaches to the study of language taking

into account various extra-linguistic factors: such as cultural, philosophical, 
theological, social, psychological ones, etc.
