Guidelines for TESL 5220 Final Project
Originality and Using Prior Existing Material: All materials submitted for course credit must represent the individual work of the student who is submitting the work. If you receive assistance from any classmate, colleagues, program alumni, or other person, you must include in your assignment document a short statement describing who assisted you and with what specific portions. (It is best practice to consult with your instructor on receiving assistance from someone else in order to fulfill or complete required assignments. If it has been determined that the work submitted has relied on too much assistance from someone else you may not be able to receive credit for the work. Please work with your instructor in advance.). The use of any prior existing material must be made clear and explicit for each and every use in all submitted work. Each instance of prior existing material must be clearly labeled above the material so that it is clear and explicit to the reader exactly when your original work ends and when prior existing material begins. Clearly label any prior existing material with a statement of where the material came from and whether it has been modified by you for the purposes of this assignment. If the assignment does not explicitly make clear that prior existing materials may be used, then permission from your instructor must be obtained in advance. It is not allowed to use material from the internet, other students, past students, or other sources as your own work in whole or in part. This is considered plagiarism and will result in a failing grade for the course. Any sources or materials that you use in assignments for credit must be properly cited using APA citation style. Original quotes must be in quotation marks and include the appropriate citation. Summaries and paraphrases of material do not appear in quotes, but they must still include appropriate citations. Material that was submitted in a prior course for credit may not be submitted for credit in another course. Profiles of classes and learners may be similar from one class to the next, but for each new course they must be written to meet the assignment specifications. Instruction material (lesson plans, assessments, etc.) should always be original. To be clear, you cannot develop activities for TESL 5139 and then use those same activities in a lesson plan for TESL 5220 and then use those as part of your assessment portfolio for TESL 5311. The purpose of this program is for you to develop the widest range of original materials. If you feel strongly about using prior material from a previous class, you must first consult with your instructor. If approved, you will be required to write a statement about why you chose to use prior material, how you have developed those materials since the previous class, and how those materials will meet the needs of the new course. You will also be required to provide a copy of the original materials that you submitted in the previous class (so that your instructor will be able to compare your prior work to what is being submitted for this new course).
