Live actively instead of passively 
One of the issues with so much ease and technology in our world is that we have been conditioned to 
become passive consumers instead of active participators. This is against our nature and must be 
resisted to gain back quality of life. Play sports instead of just watching them. Live life instead of 
watching TV. Think instead of just listening to others. Similarly, it is better to have healthy sexual 
activity instead of watching. 


Condition your mind and get in the habit of breaking routines. Try to be more proactive. Pack as 
much variety in your day as you can to get as many experiences as possible. Live life fully and make 
this a habit. Change starts with immersing yourself in new experiences and perspectives.
Have a high quality of life. Try to get a taste of good things and break out of a bad environment if 
that is holding you back. Getting more good things in other aspects of life will help you 
tremendously with quitting addiction. 
Confide in someone else 
It’s difficult to go through an addiction all by yourself. Confiding in someone empathetic who you 
trust can be very helpful. This makes it easier than shouldering the entire burden on your own, and 
having someone who understands your situation may be able to guide you and help with decisions in 
your best interest. 
This could be a parent, significant other, or counselor/therapist. It can be anyone you feel 
comfortable telling who will be able to understand the situation. If you don’t feel comfortable going 
to someone you know in real life, start by going online. You will be able to find people to discuss 
your situation with in forums, and find an accountability partner to guide you and help monitor 
your progress. 
If this step is difficult, just start by journaling. Write what you feel down, at least not keeping 
everything in your head. As you become more objective at understanding the problem, you will 
know what the right steps are for you to recover.
