The importance of extracurricular
activities in English language.


2.1. The methods of organizing extracurricular activities.

Generally speaking, for our learners, the most time they spend with English is in the classroom. They come to our lessons to spend the hours or so learning new language and how to use it appropriately. They use our classroom as a refuge, where they can leave the rest of their lives outside the door and focus only on learning English.By the same token this may mean they leave their English in the classroom when they leave.But what if there was a way for our students to be interacting with the language even when they are not in the classroom? This would increase their exposure to the language and help them integrate the language into their everyday lives. As teachers, there are a few ways we can encourage our students to do this and they have very little to do with the classroom.
There are a wide range of after school activities that help students explore their interests. These activities can help your child develop their specific interests and inspire them towards future goals and career.
Some of the extracurricular activities available:
▪︎Walk in the Woods: Reception -Year 2
▪︎Performances/ Musicals: Pre, primary and secondary, by age
group
▪︎Music(instrumental and choirs):Varies
▪︎Green Team : primary and secondary
▪︎Model UN:Years 6-11
▪︎Newspaper club:secondary students
▪︎A rotating slate of 20 + clubs each term that touch upon all
year groups, from Reception through year 13

With many options out there, all students should be able to find an extracurricular that they are interested in and can develop a passion for. Remember that extracurricular activities do not have to be sponsored by your school, so you should also consider things that you do with your family or within your community as viable options. Below I have listed many popular activities that you may not have thought of as extracurricular activities. Any interest of yours that's very self-centered is probably not going to make the cut.⁶
