1.2 . Extracurricular activities in student's life.

Extracurricular activities provide opportunities to students to express and explore themselves and areas depending upon their interests, skills and talents. Participating in extracurricular activities builds teamwork, communication, relationships, and sense of belonging, all of which help students to develop socially and be successful in school. Participation in extracurricular activities demonstrates the importance of community involvement. Participating in high school extracurricular activities is a great way to widen your teen's social circle, expand their interests, and building leadership skills. Students show that involvement in high school extracurricular activities leads to positive long-term outcomes.
Beyond demonstrating your teen's interests and individuality, extracurricular activities prove they can make meaningful contributions, maintain a commitment, and manage their time and priorities.
Colleges look for applicants who are motivated outside of the classroom. Admission officer seek passionate students who demonstrate leadership and pursue interests beyond their schoolwork. They know that teens engaged in their high schools and communities are more likely to behave similarly in college.
However, colleges do understand that not all students have the luxury of pursuing traditional extracurricular activities. Students who work to support their families or care for younger siblings are given equal consideration by admissions officers for their commitment responsibility.
While most schools are interested in extracurricular activities to some extent, they are especially important to the top 250 colleges and universities. These 250 schools get to many students who are academically-qualified, so extracurricular help you stand out.4
The less competitive schools, like large public schools or state universities receive so many applications that they narrow their focus. Typically, extracurriculars fall to the wayside here as more emphasis is pleased on quantitative date, like GPA and test scores, because these require less time on the part of the admissions committee.
That being said, having extracurriculars on your resume, no matter where you apply to, helps you present a robust application that helps the admissions officers gain an overall deeper understanding of the type of person you are. This can make or break their decision to accept you into their university. A well-rounded profile demonstrates that you are passionate and dedicated to the things you care about , both of which are qualities that would make you a valuable addition to their student body.
In addition to showing off your many interests, extracurricular can also help establish your commitment and interest in your prospective major. This can be especially true for pre-med student; you have to show interest in the field , so having a medical club or hospital volunteering opportunity on your resume would show initiative in that direction. Other examples are video game clubs or coding competitions for a computer science major, or, heading psychology club for an intended psychology major.
Extracurricular activities are utmost important in a student's life. Students who get involved in extra activities meet new people and because of that their social skills are improved. Students can expand their network which is also beneficial in finding better career opportunities. This gives them a chance to develop their social skills, meet new friends and become more confident communicating in groups. Extracurricular activities can also aid in the development of self-esteem and confidence. It is gratifying when we succeed in something we enjoy, especially after working hard to achieve it. By taking part you'll build long-lasting friendships and connections, meet students from different backgrounds, and gain transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, organization, problem solving and time management. It will also improve your confidence.
Extracurricular activities help students to learn about themselves and develop and use their skills and knowledge in different contexts,' says Chris Davison, deputy director of, and careers adviser with, the careers and enterprise team at Durham University.' Such activities are an essential element of the university experience.' ' Universities and students' unions typically host countless clubs and societies that you can join. The three main types are:
▪︎sports team
▪︎subject-based groups

▪︎social clubs organized around a shared interest.
'All employers are looking for students and graduates who have a range of skills, personal qualities and experience, which help them to be productive in the work place. Extracurricular activities give you the chance to develop these by doing things you enjoy. This is the best opportunity to have fun and make yourself more employable at the same time,'says Ian Hodges, careers and employability manager at the University of Exeter.
There will often be different groups for different abilities too for example, separate sports clubs for those who want to play competitively and for those who want to play more casually for fun or to get fit.
Extracurricular activities help children develop motor skills and improve physical fitness, while also building their cognitive and social skills, all of which can enhance children's sense of well-being.
Many parents encourage their children to become involved in extracurricular activities as a way to promote their development. To help children receive the most benefits from extracurricular activities involvement physically, emotionally, and socially, they should participate in the right amount of activities for their age level and abilities. Adults facilitating children's extracurricular activities can learn how to make the activity more developmentally friendly and recognize when it may not appropriate for a child. In addition to becoming involved in children's choice of activities and training, parents in the United States may also be placing their child in more time intensive activities that physically demanding. The American of pediatrics reports this trend may be occurring because:
▪︎Parents feel pressure to built their child's skills and aptitude from an early age to develop a high-achieving 'child.
▪︎The collage admission process has become more competitive and children are encouraged to build strong resumes with lots of extracurricular activities.
▪︎Adult expectations are placed on children at an earlier age-children are expected to manage their time commitments for both extracurricular activities and school work.
Involvement in extracurriculars can be beneficial for children when they are pursued in a time appropriate and age appropriate way. In fact, children may receive the most developmental benefits from extracurricular activities when they participate in a diverse range of activities that fit comfortably in the child's schedule instead of focusing intensely on one type of activity. This protects children from activity 'burnout', and can help reduce unnecessary physical and emotional stress. The American Academy of Pediatrics particularly emphasizes the most importance of children engaging in diffrent types of sports to develop a wide range of skills. Nationally, more children participate in sports activities than other types of extracurriculars.5
Diversity in extracurricular activities can also benefit children who are not in athletics, as these provide time to socialize with peers and continue building other important skills. With the right mix of activity and an appropriate time commitment, extracurriculars can help children perform better academically and identify with their school, thereby cultivating a more positive school experience. Sometimes parents may be concerned about their child participating in too many activities outside of school. Diversity in extracurricular activities promotes development as long as the child balances activities with the demands of school and family life. Parents can gather tips for choosing activities for their child on the Pathaways.org.website. Healthcare providers can discuss with parents about the appropriate amount of activity for their child to facilitate a healthy lifestyle.
