The object of the research is metaphor, synecdoche and simile in poetry. 
The subject of the research is the features of the translation of metaphor, 
synecdoche and simile in poetry from Russian into English. 
The aim of the research. The main aim of this research is identification of 
the peculiarities of the translation of metaphors, synecdoche and comparisons, 
translating poetic texts from Russian into English.
 
The tasks of the research. In order to achieve the aim, the following tasks 
have been set: 
- to study the concept of a poetic text and its specific features;

- to study the translation process of English poetic texts and its main specific 
peculiarities; 
- to identify the translation transformations and lexical transformations in 
poetry translation from English into Russian; 
- to study the usage of metaphor, synecdoche and simile in the poetic texts in 
both English and Russian languages; 
- to identify the specific features of translation of metaphor, synecdoche and 
simile in the poetic texts from English into Russian. 
The degree of novelty of the research: the notion, essence and the 
importance of metaphor, synecdoche and simile in poetic texts was investigated 
and studied thoroughly within the given dissertation work. It is a well-known fact 
that the stylistic devices and figures of speech such as metaphor, synecdoche and 
simile play a great role to allow the poet to express his thoughts better and more 
emotionally, but there can be faced some problems while translating them properly 
from L1 into L2, thus, it leads to misunderstanding and confusion of readers, but 
the written research work has analyzed and identified several specific features of 
translation of metaphor, synecdoche and simile in poetic texts from Russian into 
English.
