19 CHAPTER TWO §2.1. IMPROVING WRITING SKILLS LESSON PLAN WRITING SKILLS Lesson Plan 1: Types of Spoken Interaction - Listening and Speaking Skills Objective: Students will be able to identify and describe the different forms of spoken interaction, and develop listening and speaking skills through interactive activities. Materials: - Whiteboard and markers - Handouts with examples of different forms of spoken interaction - Audio and video resources for listening activities - Discussion prompts Procedure: 1. Introduction (5 minutes) - Introduce the topic of spoken interaction and explain its importance in communication. - Ask students to brainstorm different forms of spoken interaction they are familiar with. 2. Presentation (15 minutes) - Present different forms of spoken interaction, such as conversation, interview, debate, discussion, and presentation. - Provide examples and explain the characteristics of each form of spoken interaction. 3. Listening Activity (20 minutes) - Play an audio or video clip of a conversation, interview, or debate. - Ask students to identify the form of spoken interaction and take notes on the characteristics and key points. 4. Speaking Activity (20 minutes) - Divide students into pairs or small groups. - Provide discussion prompts related to the different forms of spoken interaction. 20 - Encourage students to use the skills they learned from the presentation and listening activity to have a productive and engaging conversation or debate. 5. Conclusion (10 minutes) - Summarize the different forms of spoken interaction and the skills needed for effective communication. - Encourage students to continue developing their listening and speaking skills by practicing different forms of spoken interaction. Lesson Plan 2: Debate - Reading and Writing Skills Objective: Students will be able to develop critical thinking, reading, and writing skills through participating in a debate. Materials: - Whiteboard and markers - Handouts with guidelines for debate - Topic for debate - Timer Procedure: 1. Introduction (10 minutes) - Introduce the topic for debate and explain the guidelines for the debate. - Divide students into two teams and assign roles (proposition and opposition). 2. Research (20 minutes) - Allow students time to research and prepare their arguments. - Encourage students to use credible sources and develop strong arguments based on evidence. 3. Debate (40 minutes) - Assign a timer and allow each team to present their arguments and counter- arguments. - Encourage students to use effective communication skills and engage in respectful debate. 21 4. Reflection (10 minutes) - Allow students to reflect on their performance and the outcome of the debate. - Discuss the importance of critical thinking, research, and effective communication skills in a debate. 5. Conclusion (10 minutes) - Summarize the key points of the debate and the skills needed for effective communication and critical thinking. - Encourage students to continue developing their reading and writing skills by researching and preparing for future debates.
