Journaling is  o n e of the easiest and most powerful  w a y s to dis-
cover  n e w truths. By getting your thoughts out of your head and put-
ting  t h e m  d o w n in writing, you'll gain insights  y o u ' d otherwise miss. 
W h i l e some people use journaling merely to record their thoughts 
and experiences in a  " D e a r Diary" fashion, the real power of journal-
ing lies in its ability to help  y o u  m o v e  b e y o n d sequential thinking and 
examine your thoughts from a holistic, bird's-eye view. Use this tool 
to solve tricky problems, brainstorm  n e w ideas, bring clarity to fuzzy 
situations, and evaluate progress toward your goals. Instead of a mere 
record-keeping tool, your journal can vastly accelerate your personal 
development if  y o u devote it to that purpose. 
M a n y people use paper journals, others prefer a  w o r d processor, 
and some like special journaling software. I used paper journals for 
many years, but in 2002 I switched to journaling software and never

ing; your entries are stored in a secure, private database;  y o u can use 
the built-in search feature to instantly find old entries;  y o u can assign 
entries to categories for better organization; and  y o u can easily make 
secure backups. The more robust programs even allow  y o u to insert 
images, audio recordings, videos, spreadsheets, files,  W e b links, and 
more.  O n c e  y o u try journaling software, you'll never  w a n t to go back 
to pen and paper.
