slide, n. ~ 1. Photography · A positive photographic image on transparent film that
has been mounted to facilitate projection. – 2. Science · A piece of glass used to
hold a specimen for viewing under a microscope.

Notes: Slide1 connotes a 35 mm transparency in a 2 _ 2 inch mount designed
for use in a projector, although the term is used to describe similar formats in
other sizes. A super slide is made from a larger size film, also mounted in a 2 _ 2
inch mount, but with greater ratio of image-to-mount area.

mat to protect the mounted work. – 2. Printing · A leaf inserted between printed
works to prevent the transfer of the image from the surface of one work to the
back of an adjacent work. – 3. Printing · The process of inserting dummy pages
in a work to indicate where separately printed illustrations are to be inserted.
