Students: 25 students, Intermediate , aged 15-16
Aim: To develop vocabulary knowledge on the context of “Jobs and work”
Time: 45 minutes
Assumptions: Most vocabulary and structure are known by the students.
Resources and Materials: English in Mind (3) pg 26, Active pen, Active board, flash cards
Anticipated Problem: Students might not have ideas on the type of job they want to do in the future. Ask them to tell the jobs they hate to do and from that take out the ideas.
Interaction and Time

1.

Ask students if they have thought about their future jobs.
Ask a few students what they hope to do and write some of their ideas on the board.

If students have few ideas, ask them which jobs they would not want to do;


Ask them to give reasons for their choice.

Students look at the flash cards and ask students if they know the names of any of the jobs in the pictures.
Some of the jobs might not be familiar with them.

Explain the meaning of each job from the box.
(legal, finance, public service)
Let them repeat after teachers. Choral reading, in groups and individual reading.
Ask them what are the form of these works
Ask them where these people work.
Explain that jobs can be grouped into different fields of work, and go through the fields in the box.

Students match the words in the box with the pictures on pg 26
Let them check answers in pairs

Students read the blog about “what part time job do you do now? What do you want to do in the future?
They underline the false statement about the person.

In pairs students discuss about what are the best part-time jobs in the place where they live and what jobs do they think will exist in fifty years that don’t exist now.
They will take notes about the discussion and present in front of the class.

Give positive feedback to the students. If some of the students are not willing to present, encourage them to discuss even if only take short time.
