The components of the onomasticon are not just oppositions on certain grounds; they 
are in the state of constant real and possible mutual transitions and mixture with common 
lexis. The article discusses transonymization, or transition of a proper name into a different 
onomastic category. This is, in the essence, the secondary onomastic nomination on an as-
sociative basis leading to a change in the subject-nominative correlation of the signified and 
signifier. Its rewarding analysis is carried out on the material of ergonyms and pragmo-
nyms. Nowadays there is a tendency of active word formation based on the names of politi-
cians. The involvement of the names of the current presidents of the Russian Federation and 
of the United States of America in the onimical and appellative word production is studied 
on the material of different languages. Author’s study of the use of their names in the offi-
cial secondary nomination reveals the national-cultural features of this process, raises the 
question of the degree of division of the names into groups and subgroups, indicates a mul-
tidirectional relationship of the members of the onomastic system in general and in an-
throponymicon in particular, which is relevant due to the lack of knowledge of the factors 
forming this system. Words-signs of the secondary nomination act as signs of a certain time 
with its value settings, with the prevailing positive assessment as the motivation of naming.
