MAMZUJ – It is a mixture, it is an Arabic word for “mixture or combination”; mamzuj choghir - It stands for the mixture of alcohol of various sorts, just look like present day liqueur [“B”, p. on folio 236 a]. MAMOLIK – It is an Arabic word for “country, kingdom or lands”. The word was used in the meaning of larger countries consisting of several provinces according to Baburname “Hindustan was “mamoliki vase’ ” (large country) and “purmadum (densely populated)” and “purhosil” fruitfull” [“B”, on folio 270 a]. “Mamoliki mahrus” – means “the lands under reign and protection”. “And Mevat country was conquered after the severe fights” [“B”, p.386]. MAMOQ SULTON (Eng. Mamaq Sultan) – He was one of the sultans of the Shaibanids dynasty. He was the son of Hamza Sultan. First years together with his father, he served under Sultan Mahmud Mirza and Sultan Masud. Later they came to Andijan to Babur’s palace. “According to the custom of Timuriya sultans on such occasions, I had seated myself on a raised seat (“tushak”); when Hamza Sl. and Mamaq Sl. and Mahdi Sl. entered, I rose and went down to greet them…” [“B”, on folio 34 a]. But they did not stay there long, and both went to Samarkand to Baisunghar Mirza, from where they sooner moved off and joined Shaibani-Khan. Shaibani-Khan gave them Hisar province, after he gained the power. But in 1511, when Babur marched over the Hisar both father and son were taken to prison and executed together with their uncle. Q.E. MAN SINGH (Eng. Man Singh) - It is a name of raja of Gwalior province. He was the father of Bikramajit. Babur took a tour through the buildings built by Man Singh when he visited Gwalior [“B”, on folio 341 a]. MANAS – It is a name of the river flowing through Alvar mountain. It was called as “Barah and Rupel”. Babur roamed along the river Manas after the Battle of Khanwa and mentioned that waters of the river flow into lake Kotla [“B”, on folio 327 a]. B.Y. MANGO (Eng. Mangifera) – It is a name of the fruit and it’s a tree, kind of mango. It grows in the South and Southern-Eastern Asian countries. It belongs to a family of Anacardiaceous with more than 40 types. A type of Mango – Mango Indica is one of the important fruits commonly grown in India. It grows about 10-15 meters in height. Its fruit shape is oval; the size is between melon and cucumber. It gets yellow when ripens. It belongs to the type of stone fruits. The fruit is eaten fresh, juices are prepared from it and is processed in canning industry. The fruit’s name was cited as “anba” and “naghzak” in Baburname “it is one of the fruits is anba. Hindustanis pronounce the _b_ in its name as though no vowel followed it this being awkward to utter. So, some people call the fruit “naghzak. Good ones are good but also victory happens. After that Babur mentioned that it was one of the best fruits of India, its’ fruit is worth to make a jam.
