Marviy – something or someone belonging to Marv city. (see also Sanjar Marviy)
MARVCHOQ (or Maruchaq or Mug’rob) Eng. Maruchaq, Murghab) - It is a place near Badghis [“B”, on folio 185 a]. MARJI’ (Eng. Marji) – It is a name of the official or title in king’s Divan (Royal Palace). He received all the visitor or complainants [“B”, on folio 16 a]. MAROG’A (Eng. Maragha) – It is a name of the town, presently situated in Eastern Azarbaijan province of the Iran Islam Republic. It was one of the main scientific centers in medieval period. Because of the event that observatory built by Ulugbek in Samarkand, the names of other observatories were also mentioned including Marog’a observatory in Baburname [“B”, on folio 46; 47 a]. O.B. Marfu’ – see. Raf’ MARYAMUZ-ZAMONI (1542-1622) (Eng. Mariamuz-zaman) – It is a name of the royal wife. She was the third wife of Akbar-Shakh. Her real name was Khira Kunwari, and was the daughter of Bkhar Mal, raja of Amber. She accepted Islam after she became daughter-in-law for the Baburids in 1562 and was given the name “Mariamuz-Zaman Sakhiba Begim”. She was mother of Jahangir-Shakh. She had great power in ruling the state and diplomacy. She managed the palace when her husband marched out and even had power to make decrees in her husband’s absence. She contributed building and reconstruction in the country. She was buried in the place called Iskandaria near Agra after her death. There were built many architectural monuments for her honour in Fatikhpur Sekri, Agra and Lahur cities. B.Y. MARG’ILON (or Marg’inon) (Eng. Marghinan) - It is a name of the city in the south of Fergana valley. The city was established in long ancient times. The name of the city was mentioned in the manuscripts dated the Xth century. The city was center of science and crafting in the periods of the Chingizids, the Qarakhanids, the Temurids. In 1494 after the death Umarshaikh Mirza, his brother, Sultan Ahmad Mirza, marched over Fergana and seized Marghinan city. But he couldn’t conquer Andijan, because Babur met him with strong resistance and Sultan Ahmad Mirza returned back to Samarkand. Ahmad Tambal who seized Andijan appointed Alidust Taghai as ruler of Marghilan. Caused by the riots of Ahmad Tambal and Uzun Hasan, Babur had to stay in Hujand for about a year. When he attempted to recapture Fergana again, Alidust Taghai, ruler of Marghinan handed over the city to Babur without a fight in 1494.
