MASIH (Eng. Christ) - see. Iso (a.s.)
MASNAVIY (Eng. Mathnavi) – It is a literary term of Arabic origin. It expressed a kind of poem with specific rhyme structure as: “aa, bb, cc,” In Uzbek lyrical poetry the dastans (epic) were composed in this genre. “He (Navai) wrote six books of poems (Mathnavi), five of them answering to the Quintet (“Khamsah”), the sixth, entitled the “Lisanu't-tair(Tongue of the birds), was in the same rhythm as the “Mantiqu't-tair” (Speech of the birds) [“B”, on folio.170]. Babur also wrote many Mathnavi. The poetic genre of the books “Mubain” and “Volidiya” is mathnavi. Despite that both of them are considered as independent books, “Volidiya” in most of the manuscripts included in “Divan”. For instance, the copies kept in the Library of Istanbul University and Library of Riza in Rampur (ab-12 bb) begins from this Mathnavi. In narrower meaning Mathnavi is a literary sample smaller than dastan (epic), which was traditionally included into content of Divan. Besides the poems in Mathnavi genre even can be found in content of prosaic works too. The Mathnavi is inserted into the copies of Divan in a certain amount. In the B.Yujel issue of the Divan there were given 18 Mathnavi consisted of 368 lines besides “Volidiya”. Besides that there is Mathnavi “Qarosin yog’iyning ko’rubtur” (There seen the enemy’s coming) in Baburname There was given MathnaviMusofir masoyili” in book “Aruz” to fulfill “Mubain”. There were inserted some Mathnavis in Baburnama in the depiction of the events of 1506-1507 years in the part “India” (among them Mathnavi given in “Fatkh-nama” belonged to Shaikh Zain).

MASNU’ SHE’R – It is a literary term of Persian origin. It is a type of a poem with poetic decoration. Mostly used in poetry. There were included more than ten samples of mansu’ poems in Babur’s Divan compiled by Sh. Yarqin. For instance, in the bait

The following Mathnavi of Babur can make the identical poem even when read vertically, vice versa or directly without any change in meaning and form.

Don’t let me/ to be wasted/ sweetheart/ don’t forgot,
