THE PECULIARITIES OF THE MEANS OF PLURALITY EXPRESSING IN 
THE ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

Abstract 
In this article the linguistic features of expressing plurality in the English and 
Uzbek languages were analysed with the help of comparison and contrast methods. 
Lexical, morphological and syntactical peculiarities of expressing plurality were 
identified and illuminated with examples in both languages. The analysed languages 
are nonrelative, so, a lot of inconsistencies in expressing forms of plurality were 
revealed. 
Key words: singularity, plurality, morphological way, lexical ways, syntactic 
way suppletion, agglutinative type of the language
Introduction 
For the last period the comparative-contrastive studies have become more 
topical in the modern linguistics. The study of means of expressing of quantity in 
nonrelative languages help to understand both the universal and cultural specific 
elements.
The linguistic features of singularity and plurality in the angles of expression 
and content features have been not investigated enough in the English and Uzbek 
languages. In the framework of this article the quantity forms of expression in the 
context of noun plurality will be discussed.
The purpose of this article is revealing the specific elements of plurality 
expression in English and Uzbek languages, i.e. identification and comparison of 
means of expressing plurality on the material of English and Uzbek names and verbs.
