마이클: 제니 씨, 생일 축하해요. 이거 받으세요.
제 니: 고마워요. 이게 뭐예요?
마이클: 한국 노래 CD예요. 제니 씨가 한국 노래를 좋아해서 샀어요.
제 니: 이따가 저녁을 먹고 같이 들어볼까요?
Michael: Jenny, happy birthday to you. Take this.
Jenny : Thank you. What is this?
Michael: It’s a K-pop CD. I bought it because you like K-pop.
Jenny : Shall we listen to it after having dinner?
[Grammar & Patterns]
1. -어/아서
This conjunctive ending attaches to a verb
stem to indicate that the
action of the first clause is reason for the action of the second
clause. When this ending
is used to express cause, the second clause
cannot contain an imperative or a suggestion.
배가 아파서 약을 먹었어요.
My stomach hurt so I took some medicine.
2. -(으)ㄹ까요?
This pattern attaches to the verb stem
to express supposition or
intention. It is used to ask someone’s view or opinion. When the
subject is first-person singular(I), it is answered in ‘-(으)세요’, When
the subject is first-person plural(we), it is answered in ‘-(으)ㅂ시다’.
가: 제가 문을 닫을까요? 가: Shall I close the door?
나: 네, 문을 닫으세요. 나: Yes, Please close the door.
