RESEARCH - 2022 182 Nevertheless, among South Asian countries, India offers an impressive Asian example of combining democratic tradition, religious freedom and economic dynamism. The interests of major powers and countries of the Islamic world often clash in Central Asia. Currently, South Asian countries are not leading foreign players in the Central Asian region. Increased attention of Delhi to this region is largely due to the fact that in recent years it has become the scene of the “Great game”, in which are actively not only the world’s leading power, but also “medium” level power and, especially Pakistan – permanent rival of India in South Asia [5]. Central Asia was the centerpiece of so-called Great Game between the Russian and British empires in the second half of the 19th century. The “New Great Game” means new conflicts, worsening the problems of development and chronic instability. At the same time everyone wants to see Central Asia as politically stable and economically successful; opposing religious fundamentalism and political extremism and free of territorial disputes and ethnic and confessional conflicts. External players are playing a crucial role in determining the pace and trajectory of multi-level interactions in the region. Increasing USA influence in Central Asia and its strategic partnership with India, while continuing to engage with Pakistan would determine the way these nations behave regionally and globally. Afghanistan has a geostrategic position that provides connection between South Asia, Central Asia, China and the Middle East. Therefore, it is the country that comes to the fore in all cooperation processes. The changes taking place in this state and International Cooperation in post-conflict reconstruction are opening a new chapter of cooperation with the countries of Central Asia. In this context, the realization of trans-Afghan projects may open new connections with South Asia. Opening trade and transport corridors to the South is also a policy priority of countries bordering Afghanistan, which include Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
