Dead Sheep being dried on the roof of a herder’s structure (August 2021)
Most often, animals remain lying on the ground. Shepherds and
local biodiversity experts
confirm that these carcasses attract scavengers’ attention.
The local mammal expert
observed a situation when feeding vultures consumed large
amounts of carcass and
subsequently were unable to fly for some time.
It is understood that as part of the Resettlement Action Plan, the herders and their structures
(including animal stables) will be resettled on alternative land as a result of the noise Health
Protection Zone requirements. Even though the herders will be able to graze on the site during
the operational phase, it is expected that the herders will transport any dead livestock to their
new settlements (outside the project footprint) until their deaths are verified by the Dzhankeldy
LLC so that they do not pay any fines.
