In 1660, K an ara was reliev ed o f G oan ju r is d ic t io n , and Fr. T hom as de C astro, a T h e a tin e , was a p p oin ted V ic a r A p o s to lic o f K an ara and M a la b a r. On the death o f M gr. T h om as de C astra, in 1684, K a n a ra o n ce ag ain passed u nder G oan ju r is d ic t io n and rem ain ed so till 1838. In 1838, P op e G re g o ry X V I ag ain sep arated K a n a ra fro m G oa, and the V ic a r A p o s to lic o f V er^ p o ly e x e rc ise d ju r is d ic t io n o v e r it. B ish op C a va d in i was c o n s e cr a te d in B erga m o, Ita ly , on Ju n e 28, 1896. He d ied on M arch 26, 1910, and was s u c ce e d e d on A u g u s t 17 by M gr. P au l P erin i, S.J. M gr. P e r in i was co n s e cr a te d on D ecem ber 4 o f the sam e y ea r, in the C ath edral o f M an galore, On Ju n e 12, 1923, the d io c e se o f M a n ga lore was d iv id e d , and the d is tr ic t o f M alabar w as form ed in to the new d io cese o f C a licu t.
